  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 535, against 647 in January — a decrease of 112. The deaths in February were 285, a decrease of 5 on the number in January. Of the total deaths, males contributed 165, females 120. One hundred and twenty-six of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 44·21 per cent. of the whole number; 110 of these were under one year of age.

There were fifty-four deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Three men, 77, 79, 80, and three women, 76, 77, 78, died at Auckland; ten men, 73, 75, 79, 80 (two), 82 (two), 84, 85, 90, and three women, 74, 84, 88, at Wellington; thirteen men, 65, 67 (two), 68 (two), 70, 71, 72, 73, 74, 75, 76, 81, and five women, 67, 71, 74, 78, 88, at Christchurch; and twelve men, 65, 67, 68, 69, 70, 73 (two), 77, 79, 81, 83, 94, and five women, 70, 73 (two), 75 (two), at Dunedin.
