REFERRING to the despatch of the 23rd August, 1906, published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 89, of the 25th October, 1906, the following despatch, dated the 30th January, 1907, and enclosure, is published for general information.

MY LORD,—With reference to my despatch “General” of the 23rd of August last, I have the honour to transmit to you copies of a table showing the special periods of Military History selected for the examination of Officers for promotion in the Army.

- No detailed questions will be set with reference to the action of the Spanish and Portuguese armies, and no question of any kind will be set with reference to these armies when their action had no bearing on that of the British troops.
