Claim.—A fence-standard constituted by a strip of metal helically twisted throughout its whole length, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

No. 22521.—20th August, 1906.—LILY MOTE, of Ponsonby, Auckland, New Zealand, Nurse, HORACE and LOUIS MOTE both of Balmain, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, Engineers. Improvements in extension-ladders.
Claims.—(1.) Improvements in means for elevating sections of extension-ladders, consisting of a bracket secured to the upper part of one section, a sheave attached to the said bracket, a cord reeved through the sheave passing around the bottom rung of the other section and having its ends secured to an eyebolt fixed to the bottom rung of the other section, substantially as set forth. (2.) For the purpose indicated, means for locking together sections of an extension-ladder, consisting of a clutch having bifurcated sides united by a cross-bar and pivoted to one section of the ladder, the bifurcations of the sides being adapted to engage the rungs of the other section, substantially as set forth. (3.) For the purpose indicated, means for reinforcing the sides of an extension-ladder, consisting of plates secured to the sides by nails, screws, or spikes passing through the plates, the side of the ladder, and the rungs, the said plates having their ends passed around the ends of the ladder and secured by a screw, substantially as set forth. (4.) For the purpose indicated, means for strengthening the sides of an extention-ladder, consisting of a strained wire let into a groove, substantially as set forth. (5.) The combination and arrangement of parts comprising the improvements in extension-ladders, substantially as and for the purposes specified, and as illustrated in the drawing.
