lever is attached one end of a spring the other end of which
is attached to the gate or to an adjustable spring holder
thereon, an upper and a lower gate lever integrally or detach-
ably attached to said hinging-pin, the inner vertical member
of the gate pivoting to the outer ends of said gate-levers, a
fixed catch protruding from the gate, all as and for the pur-
poses described or as illustrated in the drawings.

No. 22271.—5th January, 1907.—WILLIAM WILSON, of

Poultry-grader. An improved egg-carrier.*
Claims.—(1.) In egg-carriers of the class referred to, egg-
holders each formed of two correspondingly shaped portions
secured respectively to opposite points upon adjacent battens
of the frame, each of such portions being composed of a length
of wire bent into approximately M shape, having its central
members curved backwards to conform to the curve in an
egg’s surface while the bottom extremities of its two outer
members are adapted to be fastened to the batten, sub-
stantially as specified. (2.) The improved egg-carrier, sub-
stantially as specified and as illustrated in the drawings.

Agent. Improvements in sliding the seat or seats of dog-
carts, gigs, and other like wheeled vehicles.
Claims.—(1.) Improvements in sliding the seat or seats of
dog-carts, gigs, and other like wheeled vehicles, comprising a
spindle mounted on bearings on the inner sides of the vehicle
under the seat, a cog or sprocket wheel and cogged or sprocket
sector wheel rigidly attached to such spindle, gearing with
racks or cog-plates on the underside of seat, a handle or lever
attached to spindle for operating the cog or sprocket wheel
and cogged or sprocket sector wheel, and means for retaining
the seat in position, substantially as described. (2.) The
improvements above claimed in combination with a standard
in which the cog or sprocket wheel is mounted, such standard
being extended and bent at the top, as and for the purpose
stated. (3.) The improvements above claimed in combination
with a cog or sprocket wheel plate being bent at the side as
and for the purpose stated. (4.) The improvements set out
in claims 1, 2, and 3, in conjunction with a dog-lever pivoted
to such standard provided with means at one end for engaging
the teeth of the cogged or sprocket wheel and having a foot-
plate at the lower end, as and for the purpose described.
(5.) Improvements in sliding the seat or seats of dog-carts,
gigs, and other like wheeled vehicles, substantially as described
in the specification and illustrated in the drawings.

HELLBERG, of Royal Exchange, Sydney, New South Wales,
Australia. A combined hammock and tent.*
Extract from Specification.—This invention is adapted to be
used by explorers, surveyors, pleasure-seekers, or any one
who desires to camp out in the open air. The invention
consists of a sheet of sail-cloth of a suitable size, the two ends
of such sheet being sewn on to light stretcher-rods (preferably
of bamboo cane), and by the extremities of the stretcher-rods
it is suspended to trees, posts, or ring-bolts in walls, and
steadied by guy-ropes made fast to any suitable fixed point
on or near the ground. The above constitutes the hammock.
Above the hammock, suspended by a rope which is stretched
between the points that carry the hammock, is the tent, which
is of a size just adapted to cover the hammock. The rope
from which the tent is suspended will form the ridge of the
roof.

in draught attachments for reapers-and-binders or the like.
Claims.—(1.) Draught attachments for a reaper-and-binder
comprising means for harnessing to it four horses, one on one
side of the pole and three on the other side of the pole, and
means for equalising the draught, substantially as described.
(2.) Draught attachments for reapers-and-binders or the like
comprising, in combination, a “lever” tree pivotally secured
near one end to the pole, a “master” tree similarly secured
to the pole behind the “lever” tree, a chain diagonally
connecting the short end of the “lever” tree with the long
end of the “master” tree, another chain connecting the long
end of the “lever” tree with the short end of the “master”
tree, and swingle-trees secured to said “lever” tree, sub-
stantially as and for the purposes set forth. (3.) The general
construction, arrangement, and combination of parts com-
posing my improvements in draught attachments for reapers-
and-binders or the like, substantially as and for the purposes
set forth.

Banker. Improvements in elastic tires for vehicle-wheels.
Claims.—(1.) An elastic tire for vehicle-wheels comprising
an elastic cord or cords coiled, preferably in tension, around
the outside of a central core formed of a steel or other metal
tube or the equivalent, the whole being enclosed in a suitable
cover, substantially as described. (2.) In an elastic tire of
the kind described in claim 1, the insertion of a layer of canvas
or the like between the coiled elastic cords and the metal
tube or the equivalent forming the core, to prevent creeping
between the said elastic cords and core, substantially as
described. (3.) The improved elastic tire for vehicle-wheels
described, and illustrated in the drawing.

An improved method of purifying and solidifying kauri-gum.
Claims.—(1.) In the improved method of purifying and
solidifying kauri-gum specified, the heating, liquefying, and
solidifying the gum in the manner and for the purpose set
forth, as described and illustrated. (2.) In combination, the
oven surrounded except at the door by the steam-jacket, the
flues around the steam-jacket supplied with heat by a furnace
beneath said oven, the tilting-bars swung to hooks or eyes
within said oven for supporting trays having their ends bent
to engage ratchet teeth formed on vertical rods, strainers, and
receiving-pans fixed to beneath said trays fitted within said
oven, escape-holes made in doors of said oven, safety-valve
connected to said steam-jacket, and uptake connected to said
flues, for the purpose set forth, as described and illustrated.
(3.) In the combination covered by claim 2, the tilting-bars
swung to hooks or eyes within oven, having their ends bent to
engage ratchet teeth formed on vertical rods, the trays sup-
ported by said tilting-bars, the strainers and receiving-pans
fixed to beneath said trays, for the purpose set forth, as de-
scribed and illustrated.
