† The number of persons keeping bees was returned on household schedules as 15,396, and the number of hives (of all kinds) as 74,341.
‡ Taking 5d. per lb. for the honey and 10d. per lb. for the wax, the value of the output for the year would amount to £22,235—viz., £20,915 for honey and £1,320 for wax.
NOTE.—In 1901 Victoria, with a population of 1,201,070, had 3,619,938 fowls, 257,204 ducks, 76,853 geese, and 209,823 turkeys. For New South Wales no figures are obtainable, but estimated value of production is set down at £619,000. With a population of 1,210,304, Victoria, in 1905, showed a yield of 1,906,088 lb. honey, and 28,653 lb. wax, and New South Wales (population 1,496,050) 3,023,468 lb. honey and 58,610 lb. wax.
