During the year 1905 the import of sawn undressed timber was 11,074,673 sup. ft., valued at £77,702, and of sawn dressed timber 136,683 sup. ft., valued at £2,881. The export during the same year was 74,202,637 sup. ft. sawn undressed timber, valued at £306,552, and 960,482 sup. ft. sawn dressed timber, valued at £11,688.

The export of phormium fibre in 1905 was 27,877 tons, valued at £696,467, while the output of the mills for that year totals only 22,128 tons, valued at £544,070. Part of the export must therefore have been manufactured in the previous year.
