NOTE.—In connection with the above factories there are 459 skimming-stations (Auckland 110, Taranaki 79, Hawke’s Bay 32, Wellington 121, Marlborough 1, Nelson 12, Westland 1, Canterbury 43, Otago 60).

In addition to the above registered factories there are 384 private dairies (Auckland 24, Taranaki 228, Hawke’s Bay 40, Wellington 6, Marlborough 2, Nelson 15, Canterbury 37, Otago 32), the operations of which are not included in the Census returns.
