SOUTH PACIFIC OCEAN.
SOCIETY ISLANDS.—TAHAA ISLAND.—APU BAY.—BEACON DIS-APPEARED.—The French Government has given notice that the commander of the gunboat “Zélée” reports, under date of 26th September, 1906, that the coral beacon situated about 962 yards S. 65° W. true (S.W. by W. mag.) from Toamara Point, south-western point of Tahaa Island, Society Islands, no longer exists.
Approx. position: Lat. 16° 44′ 03″ S., long. 151° 26′ 15″ W.

SOCIETY ISLANDS.—TAHITI.—PAPIETÉ HARBOUR.—CHANGE IN LIGHT-TOWER.—The French Government has given notice that the commander of the gunboat “Zélée” reports, under date of 26th September, 1906, that the white pyramid which supported the old rear light of the range for guiding through Papieté Pass, Tahiti Island, has been taken down and replaced by a white iron mast, carrying on its trestle-trees a box from which, at a height of 68 ft. above the ground and 75 ft. above high water, is shown a fixed red light.
Approx. position: Lat. 17° 32′ 14″ S., long. 149° 34′ 02″ W.

AFRICA.
DELAGOA BAY.—The F. lt. exh. from the circular stone pillar, in 25° 58⅜′ S., 32° 35′ E., on the edge of the mud-flat extending from Lorenzo Marques, 5½ cables S. 36° E. from the harb. lt., has been altered from green to show red over the port when bearing to the nrd. of about N. 30° W. (viz.: a line passing through the position of the lt.-buoy off Reuben Pt.), and white over the shore when bearing to the wrd. of that bearing. Dec.
INDIAN OCEAN.
PT. DE GALLE.—A shoal, carrying 4 fms., is reported to exist off the pt., with Pt. de Galle Lt.-h. (6° 1′ N., 80° 13′ E.) N. 54° E., and Whale Rk. N. 17° W. Nov.
CHINA SEA.
NEWCHWANG APPROACH.—A shoal, carrying 4 fms., exists in approx. 40° 27′ N., 121° 49½′ E., with Newchwang lt.-v. N. 53° E., 10½ miles, and the 700 ft. hill near Kaechu Pt. S. 77° E. There is another patch, carrying 4½ fms., 1 mile N. 46° E. from the above. Dec.
SUNKEN WRECKS.—HONG KONG APPROACHES.—On 7th Nov. the following wrks. were reported to exist in the track of vessels: Wrn. approach—A mast proj. about 5 ft., appar. fast to a large junk, in 7 fms., in approx. 22° 11¼′ N., 114° 4½′ E. Ern. approach—A mast proj. about 6 ft., appar. fast to a large vessel, in 14 fms., in approx. 22° 14½′ N., 114° 26¾′ E. Mariners are warned that, consequent on the typhoon which occurred in Sept. last, there may be other wrks. in the vicinity of Hong Kong. Dec.
AUSTRALIA.
PORT JACKSON.—The fog bells at Bradley Head, Fort Denison (33° 51½′ S., 151° 13½′ E.), and Dawes Pt., in Port Jackson, are in future to be sounded continuously during thick or foggy weather, and not as described in Admiralty Notice No. 576 of 1905. Dec.
PACIFIC OCEAN.
OAHU.—HONOLULU HARB.—On 5th Dec., 1906, the following lantern lts., elev. 11 ft. above H.W., exh. from single-pile beacons, are to be est. about 70 ft. on either side outside the edge of the dredged chan. into the harb.: a. A F. white lt. on beacon (No. 3), on 8 ft., 5⁴⁄₁₀ cables S. 21° W. from the harb. lt. (21° 18′ N., 157° 52¼′ W.). b. A F. red lt. on beacon (No. 4), in 25 ft., 5½ cables S. 12° W. from the harb. lt. c. A F. white lt. on beacon (No. 5), in 14 ft., 4¹⁄₁₀ cables S. 23° W. from the harb. lt. d. A F. red light on beacon (No. 6), in 18 ft., 4¹⁄₁₀ cables S. 12° W. from the harb. lt. e. A F. white lt. on beacon (No. 7), in 12 ft., 505 yards S. 23° W. from the harb. lt. f. A F. red light on beacon (No. 8), in 20 ft., 527 yards S. 4° W. from the harb. lt. Dec.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Department of Navigation, Sydney, New South Wales, is published for general information.

Notice is hereby given to owners and masters of vessels that two white-painted square beacons have recently been erected on Cavanagh’s Point, opposite Lawrence, Clarence River.
These beacons, kept in line, lead between the red and black buoys at “The Elbow,” carrying 12 ft. 6 in. L.W.S. tides; this line is 50 ft. from the red buoy, and midway between that buoy and shoal-water to the southward.
At night the back beacon has a red light, and the front beacon a white light.

Notice fixing Closing-hours of Shops in the Borough of Inglewood under the Shops and Offices Act.
WHEREAS a requisition in writing, signed by a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the Borough of Inglewood, has been forwarded to me, desiring that shops in the borough shall be closed at 5.30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and at 9.30 p.m. on Saturdays, during the months of April, May, June, July, and August: And whereas the Inglewood Borough Council has certified that the signatures to such requisition represent a majority of the occupiers of all the shops in the borough:
Now, therefore, I, John Andrew Millar, Minister of Labour, in pursuance of section 21 of “The Shops and Offices Act, 1904,” and section 5 of “The Shops and Offices Act Amendment Act, 1905,” do hereby direct that from and after the 1st day of April, 1907, all shops in the Inglewood Borough shall be closed in accordance with such requisition.
