The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

† Populations of Wellington, Karori, Onslow, and Christchurch given according to alterations of boundaries since January.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 604, against 575 in September—an increase of 29. The deaths in October were 270, a decrease of 10 on the number in September. Of the total deaths, males contributed 129, females 141. Forty-six of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 17·04 per cent. of the whole number; 35 of these were under one year of age.

There were eighty-eight deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Five men, 73, 74 (two), 75, 82, and ten women, 67, 70, 72 (two), 74 (three), 81, 83, 88, died at Auckland; seven men, 67, 68, 69 (two), 73, 75, 78, and seven women, 68 (two), 75 (three), 78, 82, at Wellington; twenty men, 65, 67 (three), 68, 69 (two), 71, 72, 73, 74 (two), 78 (two), 79 (two), 80, 81 (two), 85, and ten women, 67, 74, 76 (three), 77, 79, 80, 86, 92, at Christchurch; and fifteen men, 67 (two), 70 (two), 71, 72 (two), 74, 75, 79, 82, 83, 85, 86, 88, and fourteen women, 65, 67, 69 (two), 70, 71, 73 (two), 74 (two), 78, 81, 82, 83, at Dunedin.

After a massive fire destoyed the wooden Parliament complex in 1907, Old Government House (depicted) became the seat of Parliament until 1918. Demolished in 1969 to make way for the Beehive.
