The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 526, against 584 in July—a decrease of 58. The deaths in September were 240, a decrease of 5 on the number in August. Of the total deaths, males contributed 133, females 107. Seventy-four of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 30·83 per cent. of the whole number; 59 of these were under one year of age.

There were seventy deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Ten men, 68 (four), 71, 73 (two), 77, 82, 87, and seven women, 65, 69, 70, 80 (two), 85, 96, died at Auckland; six men, 65, 66, 69, 78, 81, 83, and three women, 66, 73, 82, at Wellington; seventeen men, 65 (two), 67, 68, 70 (two), 71, 72, 73 (four), 74 (two), 82, 85, 91, and seven women, 68, 71 (two), 73, 75, 84, 85, at Christchurch; and nine men, 67, 69, 72, 73, 79, 80, 86 (two), 93, and eleven women, 66 (two), 67 (two), 68, 75, 76, 77, 80 (two), 86, at Dunedin.

THE following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Month of September, 1906.
