Claims.—(1.) In vacuum cleaning apparatus, a dust collector consisting essentially of a vessel containing an oily, gummy, or glutinous liquid, against the surface of which the inrushing current of foul air is directed. (2.) In dust collectors for vacuum cleaning apparatus, means for intercepting dust and solid matter passing through with the air current, said means consisting in bringing said air current into surface contact with an oily, gummy, or glutinous liquid adapted to absorb the solid particles from the air draught. (3.) In dust interceptors for vacuum cleaning apparatus, one or more intercepting vessels containing a liquid, and air intake-pipes directed towards the surface of said liquid but not dipping into the same, whereby the inrushing current of foul air is made to come into intimate contact with the absorbent liquid. (4.) In vacuum cleaning apparatus, a dust collector consisting of a plurality of dust collectors containing absorbent liquid with which the air makes surface contact, and acting in series upon the air current so as to subject the same to successive filtrations. (5.) A dust collector for vacuum cleaning apparatus, consisting of four chambers, A, B, C, and D, connected in series, suction connections to the first of said chambers, a connection from the last of said chambers to the vacuum pump, and means for charging the said chambers with and discharging them of absorbent liquid, substantially as described. (6.) An improved dust collector for vacuum cleaning apparatus, consisting of a plurality of connected chambers with intake and exit air connections, and liquid charging and discharging devices, substantially as shown in the drawings.
