Special Registration of Unregistered Births permitted by “The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1906.”

THE attention of the public is drawn to the opportunity afforded for a limited time—i.e., twelve months from the 24th September, 1906—to persons, or the parents of persons, who were born in New Zealand before the 24th March, 1906, but whose births have not previously been registered, of effecting a special registration by application to the Registrar-General.

By section 2 of “The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1906,” it is enacted that the Registrar-General may register the birth of any child born in New Zealand previous to the period of six months before the passing of the Act but whose birth has not previously been registered: Provided that satisfactory evidence on oath, and such other proof as he may deem necessary, of the fact, time, and place of birth, and of the particulars of the parents, shall be sent to the Registrar-General within twelve months after the passing of the Act, and that on application to have such birth registered a fee of five shillings shall be paid to the Registrar-General.

The particulars of the birth and of the nature of the evidence produced shall be entered by the Registrar-General in a separate book to be kept by him for that purpose.
