Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 534, against 538 in June—a decrease of 4. The deaths in July were 215, an increase of 9 on the number in June. Of the total deaths, males contributed 120, females 95. Thirty-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 14·42 per cent. of the whole number; 26 of these were under one year of age.

There were seventy-eight deaths of persons 65 years and upwards: Nine men, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 74, 75 (two), 84, and three women, 79, 87, 90, died at Auckland; eight men, 72 (four), 76 (two), 82, 83, and three women, 67, 77, 86, at Wellington; fifteen men, 65 (two), 66 (three), 70 (three), 72, 73, 74, 75 (two), 79, 80, and ten women, 65, 66, 68 (two), 71, 73, 75, 79, 86 (two), at Christchurch; and eighteen men, 67, 68, 69 (two), 70, 73 (two), 74, 77 (three), 79, 80 (two), 81, 84, 85, 86, and twelve women, 65, 69, 70, 72, 73 (two), 74, 75, 77, 78, 82, 84, at Dunedin.

The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Month of July, 1906.
