No. 21267.—7th June, 1906.—Ernest Alfred Barnes, of Stawell, Victoria, Australia, Cyanider. Improvements in wrenches.

Extract from Specification.—In the drawings A indicates the upper jaw, with stem B of any suitable length and transverse section, the jaw-edge (a) and the adjacent part (b) being of any suitable shape for handling nuts, pipes, &c., and not necessarily as shown. C indicates a set of arc-shaped sockets, usually semicircular. D is a slidable member to carry lower jaw E, which is suitably shaped, and has any suitable teeth or surface. Member D may be longer or shorter than shown. It can serve as a handle, as also can member B, or both members together. Member D is constituted by doubling over in U-shape a sheet-metal blank forming a narrow slot or internal space at (d), within which stem B is slipped or fitted. The stem is bounded on the solid side D1 of member D—the side faced by sockets C—by a lug I, which may be on a distance piece inside member D shown riveted at J. On part of the open side of member D stem B is enclosed by a distance piece F in Fig. 1, which fills space (d) near jaws E, and is shown riveted in that figure.
