1906, upon the following proposal to raise a special loan, namely:—

  1. The particular undertaking proposed to be engaged in is the extension of the gas and water mains and the general improvement of the gas and water reticulation in the City of Nelson.
  2. The sum proposed to be borrowed for the purpose is £4,000, repayable at the end of thirty years.
  3. The security proposed for such special loan is a special rate of 1d. in the pound upon the annual value of all rateable property within the said city. It is proposed to provide a sinking fund of 1½ per cent. for the repayment of the said loan.
  4. It is proposed that the cost of and incidental to raising the loan shall be paid out of the moneys borrowed.
    The result of the said poll was as follows:—
    Number of votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 214; number of votes against the proposal, 268; informal, 2; majority of votes against the proposal, 54.

A majority of valid votes cast at the said poll having been given against the said proposal, I hereby declare that the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been rejected.

In the matter of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”
I, Jesse Piper, of the City of Nelson, in New Zealand, Mayor of the said city, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers of the said city to the proposal to raise a special loan of £4,000 for gas- and water-extension purposes have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the said proposal has been rejected.

And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1892.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan of £4,000.

I HEREBY give notice that a poll of the ratepayers of the Awatere Road Board District was taken on Thursday, the 26th April, 1906, to determine whether a loan of £4,000 should be raised by the Awatere Road Board for the undermentioned undertakings, namely—

(a.) Purchasing road-making machinery and plant .. .. .. £2,000
(b.) Towards constructing new road, Dungree .. .. .. 500
(c.) Towards forming and gravelling road, &c., from Lion’s Back Road to new Flaxbourne Road .. .. .. 300
(d.) Towards forming and gravelling road from Section 3 to Small Grazing-run 137 .. .. .. 100
(e.) Towards forming and gravelling road, King’s Flat .. .. .. 100
(f.) Towards forming and gravelling road from Grassmere to Clarence Bridge .. .. .. 900
(g.) Towards protective works at Woodman’s Bend .. .. .. 100

Total .. .. .. £4,000

and that the number of votes recorded for and against the proposal was as follows:—
For the proposal, 164; against the proposal, 25; informal, 6; majority for the proposal, 139.

And as the number of votes exceeds three-fifths in majority of the total number of valid votes polled, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

MANAWATU LAND DRAINAGE BOARD.

Result of Poll.

RESULT of poll taken on the 20th day of June, 1906, on proposal to borrow £6,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and amendments, for the following works, viz.: To widen, deepen, divert, straighten, and erect stop-banks in, to, or about all portions of the Mangaone Stream between the Awapuni Outlet and Robert’s Line as may be necessary to provide for an equal carrying-capacity for the stream throughout with protection to the adjacent lands from overflow, and to do all such other works and acts as may be necessary for the full carrying-out of the above-mentioned objects:—

Number of voters on roll representing votes, 494; votes recorded in favour of the proposal, 127; votes recorded against the proposal, 145; informal, 7.

I therefore declare the proposal to be rejected.
