No. 19188.—10th March, 1905.—JOHN EDWARD OWEN,
of Auckland, New Zealand, Pipe Manufacturer. Improved
means for use in forming earthenware pipes.*
[NOTE.—The title in this case has been altered from that set out
in the provisional specification.]

Extract from Specification.—In carrying out the invention
an ordinary clay - press pipe - making machine is provided
and mounted upon a bed-plate formed with a circular opening
therein, the face of which corresponds in shape to the outer
face of the socket portion of the pipe to be formed. A core-
piece is supported, by means of a spindle extending upwards
through the press, centrally within this circular opening
so as thus to provide for an annular space between the peri-
phery of the core-piece and the face of the opening. A second
core-piece of larger diameter than the first is movably mounted
beneath it, and is adapted to engage therewith, so that when
the two core-pieces are together their joint peripheral faces
will correspond to the shape of the inside face of the socket
