REGISTRAR-GENERAL’S Report on the Vital Statistics of the Principal Towns of New Zealand during the Month of November, 1906:—

  • The remaining suburbs do not lie within borough boundaries, and particulars respecting them have not been obtained for the Vital Statistics.

Deaths occurring at hospitals, of persons not residents of the borough wherein the hospital is situated, have been allotted in each case to the borough where the disease was contracted, and not to that in which the death actually took place.

The total births in the above boroughs amounted to 546, against 584 in October—a decrease of 38. The deaths in November were 226, a decrease of 5 on the number in October. Of the total deaths, males contributed 121, females 105. Fifty-one of the deaths were of children under five years of age, being 22·57 per cent. of the whole number; 33 of these were under one year of age.

There were eighty-one deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: Ten men, 65 (two), 67, 68, 69, 72, 75 (two), 80, 93, and nine women, 71, 74, 76, 79, 81 (two), 82, 84 (two), died at Auckland; nine men, 65, 66, 71, 72, 74, 75, 80, 85, 87, and six women, 66, 72, 76, 78, 83, 84, at Wellington; ten men, 65, 68 (two), 69, 70, 72, 75 (two), 81 (two), and eight women, 66, 67, 73, 74, 76, 77, 81, 89, at Christchurch; and fifteen men, 66, 67, 70, 71 (two), 72, 73 (two), 74 (two), 78, 79, 82, 84 (two), and fourteen women, 65, 66, 69, 70, 71, 73, 74, 75 (two), 78, 81, 83, 86, 89, at Dunedin.

The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 Years of Age and 5 Years and upwards, and the Proportion per Cent. of Deaths from each Cause, in the Boroughs above given, registered during the Month of November, 1906.
