SUPPLEMENT
TO THE
NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE
OF
THURSDAY, JULY 6, 1905.
Published by Authority.
WELLINGTON, FRIDAY, JULY 7, 1905.
Teachers holding Certificates or Licenses under “The Education Act, 1877.”
Education Department,
Wellington, 29th June, 1905.
THE following list of teachers is issued in accordance with the thirty-ninth clause of the regulations respecting teachers’ certificates made by an Order in Council on the 28th October, 1903.
Reasons for promotion are indicated by the letters E, M, S, which stand respectively for “examination,” “marks awarded by an Inspector,” and “length of service.” Of the promotions from Class E to Class D recorded, as having been gained “by examination,” many have been effected by the operation of the twenty-first clause of the above-named regulations, which allows greater weight to the Matriculation Examination of the University of New Zealand than was allowed under former regulations. Any teacher that has been promoted can have a record of promotion endorsed upon his certificate on making application to the Department; and any teacher whose status has ceased to be provisional can obtain a full certificate on returning his provisional certificate.
In the column headed “Engagement” is inserted the name of the Education Board under which a teacher in a public school is acting, or an indication of other employment in connection with public instruction. A blank in this column signifies that a teacher was not engaged in the work of public instruction at the end of 1903, or at the date of information received during the current year.
The word “Miss” is enclosed in square brackets in the case of married women whose maiden name alone is known to the Department.
In the summary at the end of the list certificated and licensed teachers are classified as employed or unemployed according as the column headed “Engagement” shows or does not show engagement in public instruction. The names of teachers that are not known to have been engaged in public instruction at any time during the past five years have been removed from the list.
R. J. SEDDON,
Minister of Education.
