bridge over the Huangarua River, within the Martinborough Riding, the said Featherston County Council hereby makes and levies a special rate of 4d. in the pound sterling upon the valuation of all rateable property of the Waitawatautau Special-rating District, comprising Sections 68, 69, 73, 76, 81, 53, 54, 56, 57, 60, 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, and 100, Blocks VI. and VII., Huangarua Survey District; and that such special rate shall be an annual-recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable on the 1st day of July in each and every year during a period equal to the currency of such loan, being a period of forty-one years, or until the loan is fully paid off; the rate of interest to be at the rate of 4 per cent. per annum. Also that a special meeting of the Council be held on Friday, the 12th May, 1905, to confirm such resolution.

The resolution to make this special rate was passed at a meeting of the Council of the Featherston County held in the County Chambers, Martinborough, on Friday, the 14th April, 1905, and was confirmed as a special order at a special meeting of the said Council held on Friday, the 12th May, at the same place.

POHANGINA COUNTY COUNCIL.

THE following is the result of a poll taken upon a proposal to borrow a loan of £850 under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of constructing river-protective works at points known as the Ferry Road and Holly’s Hill, in the County of Pohangina, on the 13th April, 1905, when the following votes were recorded, viz.:

Ferry Road: For the proposal, 98; against, 26.

Holly’s Hill: For the proposal, 30; against, 16.

As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal exceeds three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I therefore declare the proposal carried.

PALMERSTON NORTH BOROUGH COUNCIL.

I, EDWARD ORR HURLEY, Mayor of the Borough of Palmerston North, in the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby, pursuant to “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” give notice that, on the 10th day of February, 1905, a poll of electors of the said Borough of Palmerston North was taken, under the provisions of the said Act, and also under the provisions of “The Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1904,” on a proposal of the Council of the said borough to borrow a sum of £56,000 by way of special loan for the purpose of extending the headworks of the Palmerston North Waterworks supply, and increasing the size and extent of the main supply and of the reticulation in the town and vicinity.

The number of votes recorded upon the taking of the said poll for and against the said proposal was as follows: Number of votes for the proposal, 172; number of votes against the proposal, 388; informal, 4: majority against, 216.

I therefore declare the proposal lost.

BOROUGH OF BIRKENHEAD.

Result of Poll on Proposed Loan of £3,500.

NOTICE is hereby given that a poll of the ratepayers of the borough (including all persons entitled to vote on proposals to raise loans) was taken at Zion Hill Schoolroom, Birkdale Schoolroom, Chelsea Schoolroom, and Thompson’s Store, all situated within the borough, on Monday, the 27th day of March, 1905, upon the following proposal, viz.: To borrow, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” and its amendments, the sum of £3,500 for the following purposes, viz.: To provide for the necessary cuttings, fillings, general construction, kerbing, channelling, acquiring land, compensation (if any), and incidental works rendered necessary in the carrying-out of the scheme for providing a suitable grade from the proposed wharf along the Main Road to a point at the upper side of Bath Road, according to the plans and specifications prepared by H. Munro Wilson, engineer, now lying at the office of the Town Clerk. And at such poll the number of votes recorded for and against the proposal was: For the proposal, 218; against the proposal, 34.

I therefore declare the said proposal to be duly carried.

WAIPA COUNTY COUNCIL.

Result of Poll.

THE following is the result of the poll taken on Thursday, the 4th day of May, 1905, on a proposal to borrow the sum of £1,000, under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of metalling a portion of the Kihikihi-Te Awamutu Road: For the proposal, 109 votes; against the proposal, 39 votes; informal, 2 votes.

As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is at least three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.
