Changing the Name of Seaward Moss.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS under the provisions of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894,” a petition has been presented by settlers in the locality known as “Seaward Moss,” in the Southland Land District, praying that the name of such locality may be changed to “Awarua Plains”: And whereas the Southland County Council, being the local authority having jurisdiction in that behalf, has by resolution of the said Council, adopted at an ordinary meeting thereof, consented to the name of “Awarua Plains” in lieu of the existing name of “Seaward Moss”:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred on me by sections two and three of “The Designation of Districts Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the name of the locality of Seaward Moss, in the Southland County, shall be and the same is hereby altered to “Awarua Plains,” and do assign the last-mentioned name to such locality accordingly; and also do hereby proclaim and declare that this Proclamation shall take effect on and after the thirty-first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and five.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of October, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four.

Vesting Control of Wangaehu Bridge, at Kauangaroa, in the Rangitikei County Council, and apportioning the Cost of Maintenance.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section one hundred and fourteen of “The Public Works Act, 1894” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is, inter alia, enacted that the Governor may, upon the terms and conditions in the said section mentioned, by Proclamation publicly notified, direct that any bridge already constructed, or which may hereafter be constructed, over or across any river or arm of the sea respectively shall, from and after a date to be fixed in such Proclamation, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of such local authority as shall be mentioned in that behalf in such Proclamation; and may by any such Proclamation as aforesaid fix and determine whether all or any, and if so what part, of the cost, whether theretofore incurred or thereafter to be incurred, of maintaining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing any such bridge is to be provided and paid by any local authority or local authorities, and, if so, by what local authority or authorities; and may by any such Proclamation as aforesaid direct how, when, and to whom such payment is to be made:

And whereas it is expedient to make provision under the said Act for the purposes and in the manner hereinafter set forth:

Now, therefore, I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of the powers and authority vested in me by the said Act, and of all other powers and authorities in anywise enabling me in this behalf, do hereby proclaim and direct that the bridge known as the Wangaehu Bridge, at Kauangaroa, shall, from and after the date of this Proclamation, be under the exclusive care, control, and management of the Council of the County of Rangitikei; and in further pursuance of the aforesaid powers and authorities I do hereby fix and determine that the cost of maintaining, repairing, improving, or reconstructing the said bridge shall be borne by the Council of the County of Rangitikei and the Council of the County of Wanganui in the proportion of one-half of the cost respectively.

And I do hereby also further direct that any contribution hereby required to be made as aforesaid by the Council of the County of Wanganui shall be paid from time to time in the proportion hereinbefore prescribed out of the funds of the said county, within a period of thirty days after demand in writing made by or on behalf of the Council of the County of Rangitikei, and all such payments shall be made from time to time to the Clerk of the said Council for and on account of such Council.


SCHEDULE.

The bridge over the Wangaehu River, at Kauangaroa, on the main road between Hunter ville and Wanganui, known as the Maungahoe Road, as the site of the said bridge is more particularly delineated on the plan marked R. 5738, deposited in the office of the Chief Engineer of Roads, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon coloured red.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable William Lee, Baron Plunket, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fourteenth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and five.
