Proposed Division of Existing Electoral Districts of City of Christchurch and City of Dunedin.

Christchurch, 21st February, 1905.

THE Commissioners for the South Island appointed under “The Electoral Act, 1902,” hereby publish for general information, in accordance with section 10 of the said Act, the following proposed divisions of the City of Christchurch Electoral District and the City of Dunedin Electoral District, under “The City Single Electorates Act, 1903”; and give notice that written objections to the same will be received at the office of the South Island Commission, care of the Commissioner of Crown Lands, Christchurch, up to and including Monday, the 20th day of March, 1905.

Descriptions of boundaries and maps of the proposed subdivisions may be obtained at the offices of the Commissioners of Crown Lands at Christchurch and Dunedin respectively.

CHRISTCHURCH NORTH.

Bounded towards the east generally by the Avon Electoral District from the junction of Shirley Road with Hill’s Road to Fowke Street, thence by Fowke Street to a street in continuation of Fitzgerald Avenue, thence to Bealey Avenue, thence by the said avenue to Barbadoes Street, and thence in a southerly direction by the said street to the Avon River; towards the south generally by the Avon River from Barbadoes Street to Colombo Street, thence in a southerly direction by the last-mentioned street to its intersection with Worcester Street, thence by the said Worcester Street to Antigua Street; thence in a westerly direction by a right line in prolongation of the north side of Worcester Street to the western boundary of Hagley Park; towards the west and north generally by the Riccarton Electoral District to the junction of Shirley Road with Hill’s Road, the place of commencement.

CHRISTCHURCH EAST.

Bounded towards the north generally by Christchurch North Electoral District as described above, from Colombo Street to the junction of Fowke and Hill Streets, thence by the Avon Electoral District to the Avon River; towards the east generally by the Avon Electoral District to the Lyttelton-Christchurch railway-line, and the Lyttelton Electoral District to Shakespeare Road; towards the south generally by Shakespeare Road to Waltham Road, thence southerly by the last-mentioned road to Brougham Street, and thence by the said street to Colombo Street; towards the west by Colombo Street to the Avon River at Cambridge Terrace, the place of commencement.

CHRISTCHURCH SOUTH.

Bounded towards the north by the Christchurch North Electoral District from the west boundary of Hagley Park to Colombo Street; towards the east generally by Colombo Street from Worcester Street to Brougham Street, thence by the Christchurch East Electoral District to Wilson’s Road, thence by the Lyttelton Electoral District to Tennyson Street; towards the south generally by the Lyttelton and Courtenay Electoral Districts to the Lincoln Road; towards the west by the Riccarton Electoral District to the place of commencement on the west boundary of Hagley Park.

DUNEDIN NORTH.

This district is bounded towards the north and towards the south-east generally by the Waikouaiti Electoral District, from Swampy Hill (Trig. Station S, North Harbour and Blueskin Survey District) to a point in line with the south-western boundary-line of Section No. 12 of Block VIII., North Harbour and Blueskin Survey District; thence towards the east generally by the Chalmers Electoral District to Otago Harbour; thence towards the south-east by Otago Harbour; thence in a westerly direction by Frederick Street to London Street, thence along London Street to Constitution Street, thence along Constitution Street to Argyle Street, thence along Argyle Street to the Town Belt, thence in a straight line to Pacific Street, Roslyn, thence along Pacific Street to District Road; thence in a southerly direction along this District Road to Clyde Street, thence along Clyde Street to Vaile Street; thence in a southerly direction to Anderston Road, thence along Anderston Road to Helensburn Road; thence in a northerly direction along Helensburn Road to the boundary between Maori Hill and Roslyn Boroughs; thence north-west by the Roslyn Borough boundary to the south-west corner of the Borough of Maori Hill; thence by the west boundary of the Borough of Maori Hill to Swampy Hill, the place of commencement.
