No. 19015. — 1st February, 1905. — FRANCIS HENRY COOPER, of Wellington, New Zealand, Tramway Conductor. Means for controlling the trolley-poles of tramway-cars.*

Extract from Specification.—The invention consists in the provision of spring-actuated winding-mechanism attached to the end of the car and to which the trolley-pole rope is connected. These means are adapted, when freed to act, to pull upon such rope and wind it upon a reel. They are, however, prevented from acting in the normal condition by a depending lever engaging with a stud. This lever depends in front of an electro-magnet which normally is quiet, but which when energised shall draw the lever towards it so as to free the spring winding-mechanism and allow it to act. The energising of the magnet depends upon the automatic completion of an electric circuit, which circuit is completed by means attached to the trolley-head when such head leaves the conductor wire.

[NOTE.—The above extract from the specification is inserted in place of the claims.]
(Specification, 7s. 6d.; drawing, 1s.)
