No. 20307.—13th November, 1905.—PATRICK MULLINS, of Sergeant’s Hill, Westport, New Zealand, Contractor. Improved pack of playing-cards.

Extract from Specification.—The pack will consist of fifty-three playing-cards, divided into four suites, in the same manner as ordinary playing-cards; but the suites, instead of representing hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs, will be replaced by racehorses in four colours, of chestnuts, bays, greys, and blacks. The fifty-third card will be represented by the racehorse “Missing Voucher” to act as Joker. Every spot on cards in each suite will have shown thereon a racehorse, with name, sire and dam, owner and jockey, colour to match the suite.

No. 20327.—16th November, 1905.—EDWARD JAMES MARTIN and ARTHUR CLEMENT SUTTON, both of Auckland, New Zealand, Half-tone Process Engravers. A metallic overlay for overlaying half-tone process blocks.

Claim.—The printing the plate of zinc-foil with an exact impression of the half-tone block to be overlaid, dusting a coating of bitumen-powder on the inky surface of the plate made by the impression, suitably burning the bitumen-powder to form an acid-resisting surface on the face of the impression, and immersing the plate in a solution of nitric acid suitably reduced with water until the exposed portions of the plate are etched to a depth of about ·005 of an inch, for the purpose set forth, as specified.
