    Examination for Mine-managers' and Battery-superintendents' Certificates.
    Mines Department,
    Wellington, 17th October, 1904.
    AN examination of candidates for certificates as First-
    and Second-class Mine-managers and Battery-super-
    intendents, under "The Mining Act, 1898," and First-
    and Second-class Mine-managers under "The Coal-mines
    Act, 1891," will be held on Tuesday, the 24th January,
    1905, and following days, at places to be hereafter named.
    All applications, with necessary certificates, and fee of £1,
    should be addressed to "The Secretary of the Board of
    Examiners under the Mining Act [or Coal-mines Act],
    Wellington," and must be received before the 24th De-
    cember. Forms of application may be obtained at School
    of Mines, Thames, Waihi, and Coromandel, also from In-
    spector of Mines, Thames, Westport, and Dunedin.

    Examination for Dredgemasters' Certificates.
    Mines Department,
    Wellington, 17th October, 1904.
    AN examination of candidates for certificates as dredge-
    masters, under "The Mining Act Amendment Act,
    1901," will be held on Tuesday, the 31st January, 1905, at
    Greymouth and Dunedin. All applications, with necessary
    certificates, and fee of £1, should be addressed to "The Sec-
    retary of the Board of Examiners under the Mining Act,
    Wellington," and must be received before the 21st January,

    CROWN LANDS NOTICES.
    Pastoral Run in Hawke's Bay Land District for Lease on Application.
    District Lands and Survey Office,
    Napier, 14th December, 1904.
    NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned pas-
    toral run will be open for lease on application, for a
    term of twenty-one years, at this office, on and after Fri-
    day, the 3rd day of February, 1905, under the provisions
    of Part VI. of "The Land Act, 1892."
    SCHEDULE.
    HAWKE'S BAY LAND DISTRICT.—HAWKE'S BAY COUNTY.—
    KURIPAPANGA SURVEY DISTRICT.
    Run No. 13: Area, 19,500 acres; annual rental, £20
    16s. 4d.
    This run is situated near Kuripapanga and about forty
    miles from Napier, occupying the eastern slopes of the
    Kaweka Range. High broken pastoral country; altitude,
    from 2,000 ft. to 5,000 ft. above sea-level. Soil light in
    places and stony on steeper portions. Open country, with
    scrub and black-birch timber in gullies. About 4,000 acres
    in native tussock-grass. Present carrying-capacity, about
    5,000 sheep in summer months.

    Christchurch, 23rd November, 1904.
    NOTICE is hereby given that the leases of the under-
    mentioned reserves will be offered for sale by public
    auction at the times and places specified hereunder.
    Leases not disposed of at auction will immediately there-
    after be open for application at the District Lands and
    Survey Office, Christchurch, and the local Land Office,
    Timaru.
