The following quantities are recommended as being suitable to form a standard dose of the Antiseptic Medicines for all ages, habits, and constitutions, also for all forms and stages of diseases.
For children and young persons from infancy up to twenty years of age, administer 3 drops of my Antiseptic Medicine for every two years of the patient’s age, that is to say—
YEARS 2 4 6 8 10 12 14 16 18 20
DROPS 3 6 9 12 15 18 21 24 27 30
Thirty drops (half a tea-spoonful) will be a suitable dose for adults. When immediate action on the bowels is imperative, increase the dose, and administer hot drinks shortly after. The dose in each case must be diluted with water, the quantity of water is immaterial, if the whole of the dose be administered.
In all cases the dose should be given at short intervals at the commencement, and if after two or three doses it acts as an aperient, lengthen them, if not, shorten the interval until the aperient action is produced, then gradually lengthen them until the aperient action ceases and a free natural motion is produced; continue the dose at these intervals until the system becomes thoroughly impregnated, then rest a few days, after which repeat the course if necessary, or gradually leave off.
