Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.

IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, Joseph George Ward, Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 8th day of August, 1904:—

PART III.—GOODS: REGULATIONS.

Cancel—
Regulation 41: Hawera District Industrial Exhibition.

Insert—
41.—MARLBOROUGH INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.

In consideration of their being carried solely at the risk of consignors, and of the Government being freed of all liability in connection therewith, exhibits consigned for exhibition at the Marlborough Industrial Exhibition, to be held at Blenheim from 17th September, 1904, will be carried free on the New Zealand Government railways, provided that each package shall be consigned to the secretary of the Exhibition and marked legibly “For exhibition at Marlborough Industrial Exhibition.”

All loading and unloading shall be done at the expense of the consignors, and, in the event of the exhibits or any part thereof being sold, the full ordinary railage charges must be paid.

Under similar conditions, and on the production of a certificate from the secretary of the Exhibition stating that the exhibits have not been transferred, exchanged, or sold, and are still the property of the original consignors, free railage will be granted on the return journey.

Ships’ goods will be charged according to bill of lading, or by weight or measurement, at the option of the Department; other goods by weight or measurement, as the Department directs.

Pelts, from Maheno to Woolston, will be charged 22s. per ton. Minimum quantity, 4 tons per truck. Owners to load and unload.

Cancel—
Pelts, Gore to Woolston.

Pelts, from Gore to Woolston, will be charged 35s. per ton. Minimum quantity, 4 tons per truck. Owners to load and unload.

Cancel—
Pelts, Ocean Beach, Invercargill, and One-Tree Point to Woolston.

Pelts, Ocean Beach, Invercargill, and One-Tree Point to Woolston, will be charged 41s. per ton. Minimum quantity, 4 tons per truck. Owners to load and unload.

Cancel—
Dunedin and Christchurch.

Cement and clinker, New Zealand manufacture, Dunedin to Christchurch, will be charged 15s. per ton. This rate is exclusive of charge for tarpaulins. Minimum, 6 tons per truck. Owners to load and unload.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Forfeiture of Small Grazing-runs in Otago rescinded.

NOTICE is hereby given that the forfeiture of the undermentioned small grazing-runs was notified in error in New Zealand Gazette No. 63, of the 28th July, 1904, page 1854, as such forfeiture had been previously rescinded by resolution of the Otago Land Board.

Small Grazing-run in Wellington Land District open for Lease on Application.

District Lands and Survey Office,
Wellington, 2nd August, 1904.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned small grazing-run will be open for lease on application, at this office, on Wednesday, the 14th day of September, 1904, under the provisions of Part V. of “The Land Act, 1892.”

If more than one application is received for the run on the same day, the order of selection shall be decided by ballot.

Weighted with £395 valuation for improvements.

The run is situated at the head of the Waipapa and Te Maire Streams, and adjoins Stronvar. The access is from Masterton, which is about twenty-seven miles distant via Brancepeth and Fernyhurst Roads, which are mostly metalled. The run comprises hilly land, intersected with deep gullies. The soil is of a clayey nature, resting on rotten rock and papa formation. The forest is nearly all burned; the remainder comprises dry and green rimu, miro, matai, maire, hinau, rewarewa, with usual undergrowth. The run is well watered by springs and small creeks. The elevation ranges from about 600 ft. to 1,300 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise about 27 acres felled, about 895 acres surface-sown, about 120 chains of fencing, and whare 8 ft. by 8 ft. by 5 ft.; the whole valued at £395.
