Rural Lands in Taranaki Land District open for Sale or Selection.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the seventeenth day of August, one thousand nine hundred and four; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Low hills, very broken; soil on frontage to Patea River good, on ridges poor, resting upon papa formation. Access by Maben Road, distant from Patea about eighteen miles—twelve miles formed dray-road, two miles metalled, remainder formed bridle-road, then across Patea River. The whole of the bush has been felled, but more than half has not been burned. The section is well watered. Elevation, 100 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Weighted with £1,463 15s., valuation for improvements, consisting of 551 acres felled, £826 10s.; 350 acres grassed, £262 10s.; 90 chains fencing, £52 10s.; well, £3; orchard, £16 5s.; shed, £3; logging-up, stumping, and clearing, £200; house, £100.

Situate on Maben Road. Access from Patea, distant about sixteen miles—two miles metalled dray-road, ten miles formed dray-road, remainder formed bridle-road. Generally low hills; about 50 acres level and easy slopes on Patea River, remainder rough and broken; soil fair, on papa formation; forest fairly heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, and black-birch, with thick undergrowth. The section is well watered. Elevation, 100 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Weighted with £506 10s., valuation for improvements, consisting of 164 acres felled, £246; 84 acres grassed, £63; 10 chains fencing, £7 10s.; tracks and roads, £40; clearing and logging-up, £150.

Situated on Maben Road. Access from Patea, distant about fourteen miles—two miles metalled dray-road, ten miles formed dray-road, remainder horse-road. Generally low hills, with a considerable area of level land and easy slopes on Patea River, remainder rough and broken; soil fair, on papa formation; well watered; the forest is fairly heavy, comprising tawa, rimu, rata, and black-birch, with thick undergrowth. Elevation, 100 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Weighted with £4,306 17s. 6d., valuation for improvements, consisting of 1,000 acres felled, £1,500; 800 acres grassed, £600; 200 acres partly grassed, £50; 425 chains fencing, £371 17s. 6d.; house, £300; woolshed and other buildings, £310; yards and dip, £100; logging-up and clearing, £750; stumping and drainage, £150; roads and tracks, £100; orchard, £75.

Situated on Maben and Kaharoa Roads. Access from Patea, distant about ten miles by formed and partly metalled dray-road. Generally low hills, about 100 acres nearly level, about 200 acres easy slopes, remainder steeper and more broken; soil good, on papa formation; forest nearly all cleared. The section is well watered. Elevation, 100 ft. to 1,000 ft. above sea-level.
