Block V.:—Section 1—somewhat broken; patches of mixed forest in gullies, balance fern and tea-tree; soil fair: Sections 7 to 15—undulating to broken; mostly covered with fern and tea-tree, with a few small patches of mixed forest in gullies on Sections 7 to 11; soil on top of spurs rather poor, but improves near the banks of the streams: Sections 16 to 20, and 22—mostly level and undulating; intersected with small patches of rich swamp; soil is generally of a light description; will produce good turnips and oats with working. Block IX.:—Sections 1, 2, and 3—poor clay hills, covered with fern and manuka scrub: Section 7—level and undulating; intersected with patches of ﬂax and raupo swamp; general growth is fern and tea-tree, but near the Piako River there are patches of cabbage-trees.
