Muscles exercised. Music. Description.
4. Arms, &c. “Keel Row,” or “Comin’ thro’ the Rye,” or any tune in 2-4 time In doing “Three” and “Four,” arms should be kept well back; exercise may also be done slowly. Repeat until tune is finished. “Change.” A. “One.” As for “One” of Ex. 1B. “Two.” Touch the shoulders with the tips of the fingers, elbows in a line with the shoulders. Repeat as before. “Change.” B. “One.” Extend right arm only, fingers of left hand touching shoulders as before. “Two.” Extend left arm, right hand to shoulder. Repeat as before. “Position.”
5. Arms, &c. “The Ash Grove,” or any tune in 3 – 4 time, or waltz refrain A. “One.” As for “One” of Ex. 1A. “Two.” Swing the arms from front to rear over the head and with a circular movement to the front again; body steady. Continue till tune is finished. “Change.” Position as for “One” of Ex. 1B. B. “One.” Swing arms downwards and inwards through a half-circle till they cross the chest; body steady. “Two.” Swing them back, downwards and outwards, to position. Continue till tune is finished. “Change.”
Any tune in 3–4 time (movement from left to right) taking two bars Position, arms stretched out horizontally, both towards left. C. “One.” Swing arms downwards through half-circle towards right. “Two.” Swing arms back downwards through half-circle to “Position.” Continue till tune is finished.
6. Leg and foot principally “Keel Row” Position, hands on hips, thumbs behind; shoulders back. A. “One.” Lift the right foot, knee fully bent, toes pointing to the ground. “Two.” Extend leg to front, leg straight, toe pointed downwards and towards the right, and about 1½ in. from the ground. “Three.” Position. Continue with the right leg; then with the left leg. “Change.” Position as before (Ex. 6A). B. “One.” As above in “One” of Ex. 6A. “Two.” Extend leg sideways, foot not touching ground. “Three.” Position. Continue with each leg. “Change.” Position as before (Ex. 6A). C. “One.” As above in “One” of Ex. 6A. “Two.” Extend leg to rear, foot being stretched out and toes downward, but not touching ground. “Three.” Position.
7. Leg and foot “Keel Row”; “Oh, dear! What can the Matter be?” Position as before (Ex. 6A). A. “One.” As above in “One” of Ex. 6A. “Two.” As above in “Two” of Ex. 6A. “Three.” Place foot on ground. “Four.” Position. Continue with right foot. “Change.” Repeat same with left foot; continue. “Change.” Repeat same with right and left foot alternately. Position as before (Ex. 6A). B. “One.” As before in Ex. 6A. “Two.” As in Ex. 6B. “Three.” Place foot on ground. “Four.” Position. Continue with each foot, then with right and left alternately. Position as before (Ex. 6A). C. “One.” As before. “Two.” As in Ex. 6C. “Three.” Place foot on ground.
