Notice of Acceptance of Complete Specifications.

COMPLETE specifications relating to the undermentioned applications for Letters Patent have been accepted, and are open to public inspection at this office. Any person may, at any time within two months from the date of this Gazette, give me notice in writing of opposition to the grant of any such patent. Such notice must set forth the particular grounds of objection, and be in duplicate. A fee of 10s. is payable thereon.

No. 16135.—25th March, 1903.—JOHN BEDE MORONY, of Mudgee, New South Wales, Storekeeper. A device for preventing horses or other animals attached to road vehicles from starting or bolting.*

Claims. — (1.) A device for the purpose stated characterized by a circular rack or toothed ring adapted to be secured to the nave of the wheel in a fixed position, and having in the face thereof an annular groove in which is fitted a band which is adapted to revolve therein on roller or ball bearings, said ring having pivotally attached thereto a pawl which engages the fixed rack, and is provided with an eyelet to which the driving-reins are attached when it is desired to utilise the device, substantially as described, and as illustrated in the drawings. (2.) The combination with a road vehicle of a device characterized by a circular rack or toothed ring adapted to be secured to the nave of the wheel in a fixed position, and having in the face thereof an annular groove in which is fitted a band which is adapted to revolve therein on roller or ball bearings, said ring having pivotally attached thereto a pawl which engages the fixed rack, and is provided with an eyelet to which the driving-reins are attached when it is desired to utilise the device, substantially as described, and as illustrated in the drawings.

No. 16157.—28th March, 1903.—WILLIAM SIM, of Underwood, Invercargill, New Zealand, Engineer. Improvements in milking-machines.*

Claims.—(1.) A tube to surround the teat of a cow and guide the milk therefrom into a receptacle, a pad secured in the tube, a tongue suspended in the tube, and mechanism actuating the tongue so as to press with its upper end the neck of the teat against the pad and so that the remainder of the tongue may continue the pressure down the teat against the pad, substantially as and for the purposes set forth. (2.) A milking-machine consisting of a slotted holder, bent arms secured thereto, a milker secured to the end of each arm, means for securing said slotted holder to a cow and a milker to each teat, and mechanism actuating said milkers, substantially as described. (3.) In a milking-machine, the method of operating the milker illustrated in Fig. 6, consisting of a valveless air-pump 15, a fresh-air supply-pipe 40 opening into said pump, a safety valve 32 in the main lead 38, and mechanism for actuating the piston of the air-pump, substantially as described. (4.) The combination and arrangement of parts for conveying the milk from the milkers to the can, substantially as described, and illustrated in Fig. 7 of the drawings.
