Witness our Right Trusty and Well-beloved William Lee, Baron Plunket; Knight Commander of our Royal Victorian Order; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over our Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, this twenty-first day of December, in the fourth year of our reign, and in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and four.

Rural Land in Auckland Land District open for Selection on Lease in Perpetuity.


PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section one hundred and thirty-six of “The Land Act, 1892,” and section two of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby declare and provide as follows, that is to say:—

  1. The rural land described in the Schedule hereto is hereby set apart for disposal by way of selection on and after the eighth day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five, at the rental specified in the said Schedule.

  2. The said land may be selected on lease in perpetuity only, as provided by section one hundred and twenty-one of “The Land Act, 1892,” as it contains, or is supposed to contain, metal, mineral, or valuable stone, and shall not be purchased for cash.

  3. For the purposes of “The Bush and Swamp Crown Lands Settlement Act, 1903,” the land described in the said Schedule hereto shall be deemed to be “light-bush land.”

  4. No general rate shall be levied or collected by any local authority from the said land for the period of three years from the date from which such land is disposed of, and no local authority shall have power to levy or collect any such rate from such land during such period.

  5. After the first half-year’s rent has been paid by the selector, the further instalments of rent payable by him for a period of three years shall not be demanded: provided that if at any time during the first five years of his occupancy the selector disposes of his interest in the land the rent so conceded shall be paid by him in full, and thereupon the Land Board may remit such instalments of rent payable by the incoming tenant, not exceeding in the aggregate the amount of rent previously conceded to the selector, as the Board shall think fit.

AUCKLAND LAND DISTRICT.—GREAT BARRIER ISLAND.—HARATAONGA PARISH.

Second-class Light-bush Land.

SECTION 10: Area, 52 acres 1 rood; rent per acre per annum, 3·6d.

Very broken land covered with manuka and mixed forest; fronts east coast of Great Barrier Island, near Whangapoua Bay.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fourteenth day of December, one thousand nine hundred and four.

PLUNKET, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, William Lee, Baron Plunket, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural land enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the first day of March, one thousand nine hundred and five; and also that the land mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the price at which the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said land shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

This section is situated about seven miles and a half westward from Amberley, on the south-eastern slope of Mount Grey, and has frontage to Crampton’s Bush Road. It comprises open land, upon which there is at present a considerable growth of gorse.
