Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.

NOTICE is hereby given that the undermentioned lands will be open for sale or selection, at this office, in terms of section 136 of “The Land Act, 1892,” either for cash, for occupation with right of purchase, or for lease in perpetuity, on Wednesday, the 11th day of November, 1903.

If more than one application is received for the same section on the same day, the order of selection shall be decided by ballot.

This section is situated on the western side and lower spurs of the Ruahine Range, about four miles from Raumai Township. The access is from Ashhurst, which is about ten miles distant, via the Ashhurst–Pohangina Road for six miles, all metalled, thence by good metalled road to within half a mile of the section, the remainder of the distance being unformed, but it is passable for horse traffic. The section comprises rough hilly country with a few easy slopes on top of the spurs. The soil is of fair quality, resting on rock and papa formation; the forest is fairly heavy, comprising rimu, white-pine, maire, tawhero, birch, &c., with a thick undergrowth of the usual kind. The section is well watered by permanent streams. The improvements comprise 370 acres felled, 200 acres grassed, and 34 chains of fencing. 170 acres of the felled portion is overgrown with scrub.

WAIWERA BLOCK.

This section is situated on the Manawatu Road, in the Waiwera Block. The access is from Hukanui, which is about five miles distant, 40 chains of which is cleared, 50 chains formed dray-road, the remainder is metalled, the Mangahao intervening. The section comprises hilly forest country with little or no flat land; the soil is poor and stony, resting on rotten rock and papa formation. The forest is mixed, comprising rata, birch, rimu, tawa, &c., with tawhero on ridges, with a fair undergrowth of supplejack, konini, whitewood, &c. The section is well watered by a creek. The elevation ranges from about 800 ft. to 1,200 ft. above sea-level.
