shall have been delivered at the office of the Colonial Secretary within one month after the publication of this notice, or if the District Board shall not have lodged with the Colonial Secretary within the same time an objection to such petition, the Governor in Council will declare the said Hospital to be a separate institution under the said Act.

Alterations to the Scale of Fares, Rates, and Charges in Force upon the New Zealand Government Railways.
IN pursuance of all powers and authorities enabling me under “The Government Railways Act, 1900,” I, Joseph George Ward, Minister for Railways, do hereby make the following alterations in the scale of fares, rates, and charges in force on the New Zealand Government railways open for traffic, such alterations to come into force on and after the 14th day of September, 1903:—
PART III.—GOODS: REGULATIONS.
- WAIRARAPA ART AND INDUSTRIAL EXHIBITION.
In consideration of their being carried solely at the risk of consignors, and of the Government being freed of all liability in connection therewith, exhibits consigned for exhibition at the Wairarapa Art and Industrial Exhibition, to be held at Masterton on the 13th, 14th, 15th, and 16th October, 1903, will be carried free on the New Zealand Government railways, provided that each package shall be consigned to the secretary of the Exhibition and marked legibly “For exhibition at Wairarapa Art and Industrial Exhibition, Masterton.”
All loading and unloading shall be done at the expense of the consignors, and, in the event of the exhibits being sold, the full ordinary railage charges must be paid.
Under similar conditions, and on the production of a certificate from the secretary of the Exhibition stating that the exhibits have not been transferred, exchanged, or sold, and are still the property of the original consignors, free railage will be granted on the return journey.

Notice of the Laying-off of Road through Section 52, Block XV., Wangaehu Survey District.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the road described in the Schedule hereto was duly taken and laid off, in January, 1883, through the land specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated 11th October, 1882.

Notice of the Laying-off of Roads through Rangitatau Block, Nukumaru and Momahaki Survey Districts.
NOTICE is hereby given, by direction of His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, under the authority of section 92 of “The Public Works Act, 1894,” that the roads described in the Schedule hereto were duly taken and laid off on the 11th August, 1902, through the lands specified in the said Schedule, under the authority of the Governor of the said colony, by Warrant dated the 10th March, 1902.

Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.
Mines Department,
Wellington, N.Z., 14th November, 1901.
NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £2,000 will be paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904, shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold from black sands in New Zealand.
The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following conditions:—
- The invention shall, in its main features, differ from all machinery and appliances at present in use for the saving of gold, whether coarse or fine.
- It shall be readily transportable from place to place, and shall be capable of utilising local water for all its requirements.
- The invention must be capable of treating not less than 30 cubic yards an hour of black sand or any coarser material up to a diameter of 4 in.; and it must be capable of treating such material profitably where there is not more than a value, in gold, of 3d. per cubic yard; not less than 80 per cent. of the gold contained in the material to be recovered by the machine.
- No bonus to be paid until the invention has been continuously worked for not less than six months, and it shall, during that period, have treated not less than 100,000 cubic yards of material, working three shifts a day.
- The bonus will be paid on the certificate of an officer that not less than twenty persons other than the applicant for the bonus are successfully working the invention.
- Any person who receives the bonus shall not be allowed to take out patent rights in New Zealand for his invention.
