In a centrifugal separator a bowl or vessel secured to the lower end of a spiral spring, the upper end of said spring being secured to a rotable shaft at a point above the centre of gravity of the bowl or vessel and its attached parts, substantially as described. (11.) In a centrifugal separator, a rotable shaft provided with a worm and end-bearings adapted to receive the thrust of the shaft in opposite directions, in combination with a bowl or vessel secured to one end of a spiral spring, the other end of which is secured directly to the free end of the rotable shaft, substantially as described. (12.) In a centrifugal separator, the combination of a rotable shaft, a spring secured to said shaft and a sleeve or tube attached to the spring, in combination with a bowl or vessel adapted to be carried by the sleeve or tube, substantially as described. (13.) In a centrifugal separator, a rotable driving-shaft screw-threaded at one end, in combination with a spiral spring secured directly to the screw-threads of the shaft, together with a bowl or vessel secured to the other end of the spring, substantially as described. (14.) A centrifugal separator provided with a rotable shaft having thrust-bearings and a bowl or vessel secured to the shaft, in combination with a lubricating-chamber and oil holes or ducts so arranged that all of the parts of the machine are kept continuously lubricated, substantially as described. (15.) In a centrifugal separator, the combination of a shaft provided with a driving-worm and a surrounding sleeve, together with thrust-bearings at the opposite ends of the sleeve and holes or ducts whereby continuous lubrication is effected, substantially as described. (16.) In a centrifugal separator, the combination of a rotable shaft provided with a worm and a surrounding sleeve extending the entire length of the worm, together with thrust-bearings and means for conveying oil to all of the parts of said shaft, substantially as described.

Apparatus for treating air.

Claim.—In apparatus for treating air, the combination of an air-regenerating device, means for distributing an air-changing medium over said regenerator, means for causing air from without the apparatus to travel over said medium on the regenerator, and means for returning said air to the air outside the apparatus, the distributing means being driven slowly from a shaft provided with a water-wheel which is enclosed in a casing shaped to prevent the water from swirling therein and to cause the water to discharge into the distributing-device, the whole operating to effect desired changes in the air without spattering of liquid outwardly from the apparatus.
