Rural Lands in the Otago Land District open for Sale or Selection.

RANFURLY, Governor.

In pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of "The Land Act, 1892," I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-eighth day of September, one thousand nine hundred and three; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of "The Land Act, 1892."

This section is fairly level, has a good aspect, and the soil is of very fair quality. Situated about eleven miles from Owaka, seven miles from the proposed railway terminus at Ratanui, five miles from a dairy factory, and three miles from a school. Valuation for improvements, £107 15s.

This section is rather poor, but has a good aspect. The soil is light, somewhat sour, and contains a good deal of moss. Situated about eleven miles from Owaka, and about seven miles from proposed railway terminus. Valuation for improvements, £5.

Open land, consisting of dry, shingly terrace, with poor soil. Permanent water might be obtained by sinking. Situated on a good road about three miles from Clyde. Valuation for improvements, £114.

A bush section, not very broken; soil light; aspect good; well watered. Situated about five miles from Glenomaru Railway-station, and about three miles from post-office, creamery, and school. Valuation for improvements, £49 15s.

About two-thirds of this section has a northerly aspect, the remainder being on the dark side of the hill. The soil is fair, and the timber consists chiefly of kamai, red-pine, and broadleaf. Situated about three miles from Chasland's Post-office and School.

These sections are steep and broken, the aspect is bad, and the soil light and poor. Each section contains some heavy bush, but the timber is mostly kamai. Situated on the Puerua Stream, about five miles and a half from Romahapa Railway-station.

These allotments are situated in the Hunterville No. 1 Block. The access is from Hunterville, which is about twenty-five miles distant by the Turakina Valley Road: about sixteen miles and a half are by dray-road, and the remainder horse-road. The lots comprise hilly and broken country, with good soil resting on a papa formation. The forest is of mixed character, comprising rimu, rata, manuka, kahikatea, maire, rewarewa, &c., with usual undergrowth. The lots are well watered.
