IN the New Zealand Gazette of the 12th February, 1903, there appeared a return showing the estimated yield per acre of wheat, oats, and barley for the colony, viz.: Wheat, 28 bushels; oats, 35 bushels; and barley, 37 bushels. The actual yields now to hand are considerably heavier than the estimated, viz.:

WHEAT.

The area for threshing was 194,355 acres, and the total yield is computed at .. 7,457,915 bushels.

The following figures will show how the wheat-crop of 1901-2 was disposed of up to 31st October, 1902:—
In the New Zealand Gazette of 10th July, 1902, the wheat on hand, available for all purposes, as at 28th February, 1902, was stated at .. .. .. .. 5,373,848 bushels.
This has been disposed of as follows:—
For seed, 195,255 acres, at 2 bushels per acre .. .. 390,510 bushels.
Consumption for population of 835,000, for eight months, at 6 bushels per annum, from 28th February, 1902, to 31st October, 1902 .. .. .. .. .. .. 3,340,000 "
