tendance Commission shall belong to the Magistrate or to
the Justices. A letter from the Secretary for Education,
or from some responsible officer acting on his behalf, shall
be sufficient evidence of the non-existence of a School
Attendance Commission.

  1. A School Attendance Commission may take proceed-
    ings against any parent or guardian that allows a child
    subject to the provisions of these regulations to be removed
    from a school district without what the School Attendance
    Commission consider sufficient reason; but no fine may be
    inflicted if such child regularly attends some other school.

  2. In cases in which there is no Native school within a
    reasonable distance of the permanent residence of a Maori
    child, and in which there is a public school that the child
    would, if a European, be called upon to attend, such child
    shall be subject to all the provisions of “The School At-
    tendance Act, 1901.”

The provisions of “The School Attendance Act, 1901,”
and of regulations thereunder, shall apply to Maori or half-
caste children, except in so far as those provisions are
modified by these regulations.


Plants declared to be Noxious Weeds in the County of

Kaikoura County Council has by special order declared
wild turnip to be a noxious weed within the meaning of
“The Noxious Weeds Act, 1900,” in the district under its
jurisdiction.

Importation of Fruit infested with Codlin-moth into Western
Australia prohibited.—Gazette Notice No. 771.

Wellington, 21st April, 1903.

IT is hereby notified for public information that advice
has been received from the Department of Agriculture
of Western Australia that, as attempts to import fruit
infested with codlin-moth into that State have increased,
the Inspectors at the ports there have been empowered to
destroy the whole of a consignment in which a single in-
fested fruit has been found.

Exporters are therefore advised to ship none but clean
fruit to Western Australia.

Authorising the Laying-off of the Main Streets in the Town
of Herewini of a Width of 66 ft.

IN pursuance of the power and authority conferred upon
me by section 2 of “The Towns Main Streets Act,
1902,” I, Thomas Young Duncan, Minister of Lands, do
hereby authorise the laying-off of the main streets in the
Town of Herewini, Auckland Land District, of a width of
66 ft., instead of 99 ft., as prescribed by section 17 of “The
Land Act, 1892.”

authorise the laying-off of the main streets in the Town of

Approving and appointing a Bonding Warehouse.


CUSTOMS.—In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by “The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882,” I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the undermentioned ware-
house to be a warehouse for the reception of goods under
bond, namely,—

Port of Lyttelton.

The cellar of a brick building situate on Town Sec-
tion 748, Hereford Place, Christchurch, to be known as

Brown’s Bond.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this sixteenth
day of April, one thousand nine hundred and
