New County of Egmont divided into Ridings, &c.

A PROCLAMATION.

IN exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The Counties Act, 1886,” “The Egmont County Act, 1901,” and “The Egmont County Districts Adjustment Act, 1902,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby divide the new County of Egmont, as constituted by the said Acts, into three ridings, to be called the Opunake Riding, the Rahotu Riding, and the Oeo Riding, and declare that the boundaries thereof shall be those set forth under the names of the said ridings respectively in the Schedule hereto.

And I do hereby declare that one member shall be elected for the Opunake Riding, four members for the Rahotu Riding, and four members for the Oeo Riding.

And I do further declare that Monday, the twentieth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three, shall be the day upon which the election of the first Council of the said County of Egmont shall take place, and that Thursday, the twenty-third day of April, one thousand nine hundred and three, at one o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the Town Hall at Opunake shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the said Council shall be held.

SCHEDULE.
OPUNAKE RIDING.

All that area in the Taranaki Land District bounded towards the north-west generally by the Otahi River from the sea to the westernmost corner of Section No. 35, Block IX., Opunake Survey District; thence towards the north-east by the said Section No. 35 to the Waiaua River; thence towards the south-east generally by the Waiaua River to the sea; and thence towards the south-west generally by the sea to the place of commencement.

RAHOTU RIDING.

All that area in the Taranaki Land District bounded towards the north-east by the north-eastern boundary of the County of Egmont, as described in “The Egmont County Act, 1901,” from the sea at the north-western corner of Section No. 26, Block IV., Cape Survey District, to the summit of Mount Egmont; thence towards the south-east generally by a right line to the source of the Taungatara River; thence by the Taungatara River to the sea; and thence towards the south-west and west generally by the sea to the place of commencement: excepting from the above-described area the Opunake Riding hereinbefore described.

OEO RIDING.

All that area in the Taranaki Land District bounded towards the north-west generally by the Rahotu Riding, hereinbefore described, from the sea at the mouth of the Taungatara River to the summit of Mount Egmont; thence towards the east generally by the eastern boundary of the County of Egmont, as described in “The Egmont County Act, 1901,” to the sea; and thence towards the south-west by the sea to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this second day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and three.

Arrangements for First Elections, &c., Egmont County.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to appoint

ADOLPHUS HARRY MOORE

to be the person to make up electors’ rolls for the ridings of Opunake, Rahotu, and Oeo, in the County of Egmont, as constituted under “The Counties Act, 1886,” “The Egmont County Act, 1901,” and “The Egmont County Districts Adjustment Act, 1902”; also to be Returning Officer to conduct the first elections of members of the Council of the said county; and also to be the Clerk of the Egmont County Council for the purpose of presiding at the first meeting thereof.

Adoption of Child under Section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

NOTICE is hereby given that the adoption particulars of which are set out hereunder has been duly registered by me under the provisions of section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

PARTICULARS OF ADOPTION OF CHILD.
To the Registrar of the Native Land Court, Wellington District.

I, HENARE PUNARUKU, of Waitara, Taranaki, hereby give notice that I have taken Taitoko ki Ngamotu, a child of Tangotango, to be my adopted child according to Maori custom; and I request that such adoption be registered under the provisions of section 50 of “The Native Land Claims Adjustment and Laws Amendment Act, 1901.”

As witness my hand, this 28th day of March, 1903.

CROWN LANDS NOTICES.

Lands in Taranaki Land District forfeited.

IT is hereby notified that, the leases of the under-mentioned Crown lands having been forfeited by resolution of the Taranaki Land Board, the said lands have thereby reverted to the Crown under the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

In the event of the leases of any of the allotments not being disposed of at the auction, they will immediately thereafter be open for selection at the District Lands and Survey Office, Christchurch.
