Result of Poll for Proposed Loan.

THE following notice, received from the Opotiki Town Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

OPOTIKI TOWN BOARD.
Result of poll taken on the 4th day of March, 1903, under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” on the proposal of the Opotiki Town Board to borrow the sum of £300 for the purpose of the erection of a wharf and grain-shed on the Otara River:—
Number of valid votes recorded for the proposal, 52; number of valid notes recorded against the proposal, 5.
As the total number of valid votes recorded in favour of the proposal is more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded at the poll, I hereby declare the said proposal carried.

BOROUGH OF BALCLUTHA.
I HEREBY give notice that at a poll taken on Saturday, the 28th day of February, 1903, on the proposal of the Balclutha Borough Council to raise by way of loan from the Government the sum of £500, being the borough’s share of cost for renewing the Balclutha Traffic-bridge, as advertised in the Clutha Leader and Free Press, the following votes were recorded:—
For the proposal, 48; against the proposal, 1: majority in favour of proposal, 47.
I therefore declare the proposal carried.

THE following notice, received from the Mayor of the Borough of Invercargill, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

BOROUGH OF INVERCARGILL.
PUBLIC notice is hereby given that at a poll of the rate-payers of the Borough of Invercargill, duly held in the said borough on Friday, the 6th day of March, 1903, upon the proposal of the Council of the said borough hereinafter set forth, the number of votes recorded for and against the said proposal was as follows, that is to say: For the proposal, 322; against the proposal, 253: majority in favour of the proposal, 69.
And I, Charles Stephen Longuet, the Mayor of the said borough, hereby declare the said proposal to be carried.
The said proposal is as follows:—
Public notice is hereby given that the Council of the Borough of Invercargill propose to borrow the sum of £12,000 by way of special loan under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of constructing, providing, and establishing the following public work and engaging in the following undertaking, that is to say, the erection of a Town Hall and municipal offices on Sections 5, 6, 17, and 18, Block III., in the Town of Invercargill. And notice is hereby further given that the said loan of £12,000 and the interest thereon shall be secured upon the annual revenues, rents, issues, and profits which may be derived by the said Council from the said Town Hall and municipal offices, and also upon all the general rates and all the annual revenues, rents, and income of the Mayor, Councillors, and Burgesses of the Borough of Invercargill aforesaid. And notice is hereby further given that the said loan of £12,000 is intended to be raised by the issue of 120 debentures of £100 each, repayable at the expiration of twenty years from the date thereof respectively, and bearing interest at the rate of £4 per centum per annum, payable half-yearly, and charged upon the general rates, annual revenues, rents, issues, profits, and income aforesaid; and that the principal and interest of the said debentures shall be payable at the Bank of New Zealand, Invercargill. And notice is hereby further given that it is proposed that the cost of raising the said loan and the first year’s interest thereon shall be paid out of the said loan.

ONEHUNGA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
PROPOSAL to raise a special loan under “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” upon which a poll was taken on the 4th day of March, 1903:—

To repair, alter, and remake, according to the level of the tram-rails, the main thoroughfare of the Borough of Onehunga from the entrance to the borough on the Auckland Road, via Trafalgar Street and Queen Street, to the wharf.

To borrow from the Colonial Treasurer £2,000 at 3½ per centum per annum for forty-one years.

To provide security for the payment of the loan and interest by a special rate of 1d. in the pound on all rateable property within the borough, and that interest be paid half-yearly. The payment of interest at 3½ per centum per annum for forty-one years will extinguish the debt.

It is not proposed to pay out of the loan the cost of raising the loan, or the interest for the first year.
Result of poll: The result of the polling was as follows: For the proposal, 249; against the proposal, 18; informal votes, 5: total number of votes recorded, 272.
I, Donald Alexander Sutherland, Mayor of the Borough of Onehunga, do solemnly and sincerely declare that all proceedings required by law to be taken in or towards obtaining the sanction of the ratepayers to the proposal referred to in the foregoing notice have been duly taken, and that the resolution in favour of the proposal has been duly carried. And I make this solemn declaration conscientiously believing the same to be true, and by virtue of the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand intituled “The Justices of the Peace Act, 1882.”

Notice of Intention to introduce a Bill prohibiting the Sale of Adulterated Wines.

Wellington, 18th March, 1903.
NOTICE is hereby given to importers of wines, and to New Zealand viticulturists and wine-manufacturers, that it is the intention of the New Zealand Government to introduce during next session of Parliament a Bill prohibiting the sale of adulterated wines, whether imported or manufactured in New Zealand.
The proposed measure will be to some extent similar to the law on the subject of wine-adulteration now in existence in Australia.

HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to order that the Customhouses throughout the colony shall be closed after midday on the day which is appointed locally for the election of Licensing Committees under section 10 of “The Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control Act Amendment Act, 1895.”
