person landing the same, and the consignee or other person receiving or keeping it knowing it to have been landed in contravention as aforesaid, shall, each according to and in respect of his own acts and defaults, be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

(2.) If a dog is moved in contravention of this order, or of the conditions or provisions of a license or notice thereunder, the owner of the dog, and the person for the time being in charge thereof, and the person causing, directing, or permitting the movement, and the person moving the dog, and the consignee or other person receiving or keeping it knowing it to have been moved in contravention as aforesaid, and the occupier of the place from which the dog is moved, shall, each according to and in respect of his own acts and defaults, be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

(3.) If a dog is not kept isolated as required by this order, or by the conditions or provisions of a license or notice thereunder, the owner of the dog, and the person for the time being in charge thereof, and the occupier of the place where such dog is detained, and the person failing or neglecting to isolate the dog, shall, each according to and in respect of his own acts, defaults, or omissions, be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

(4.) If a dog is not secured, muzzled, or confined as required by this order, or by the conditions or provisions of a license or notice thereunder, the owner of the dog, and the person for the time being in charge thereof, and the master of any vessel on board which the dog is or has been carried to Great Britain, shall, each according to and in respect of his own acts and defaults, be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

(5.) If a person with a view to unlawfully evade or defeat the operation of this order, or of the conditions or provisions of a license or notice thereunder, allows a dog to stray, he shall be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

(6.) If the owner or person in charge of a dog fails to give, produce, or do any notice, license, or thing which by this order, or by the conditions or provisions of a license or notice thereunder, he is required to give, produce, or do, he shall be deemed guilty of an offence against the Act of 1894.

THE following special order, made by the Hobson County Council, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

HOBSON COUNTY.

Special Order.—Section 21, “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901.”

In pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in them in that behalf by “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” the Hobson County Council do hereby resolve as follows: That, for the purpose of providing the interest and other charges on a loan of £200, authorised to be raised by the Hobson County Council under the provisions of “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1901,” for the purpose of constructing Sill’s Road from the present Miti tai-Tokatoka Road, the said Hobson County Council do hereby make and levy a special rate of 1½d. in the pound upon all the rateable valuation of all the rateable property of and in the Sill’s Road Special-rating District, and comprising Sections Nos. 11, 23, and 23A of the Parish of Whakahara; Sections Nos. 9, 10, S.E. 11, portion of 25, and part 27 and 28, of the Parish of Arapohue; all in the Okahu Riding of Hobson County: and that such special rate shall be an annually recurring rate during the currency of such loan, and be payable yearly on the 1st day of October in each and every year during a period of forty-one years, equal to the currency of such loan, or until the loan is fully paid off.

The common seal of the body corporate called “The Chairman, Councillors, and Inhabitants of Hobson County” was hereunto affixed by direction of the Council of Hobson County, this 20th day of August, 1902, by and in the presence of—

IT is hereby notified for public information that the Hon. the Commissioner of Trade and Customs has decided to interpret the Customs and Excise Duties Acts in relation to the undermentioned articles as follows:—

NOTE.—“Not otherwise enumerated” appears as n.o.e.; “other kinds” as o.k.; “articles and materials suited only for, and to be used solely in, the fabrication of goods in the colony” as a. & m.s. Articles marked thus * are revised decisions.

*02/672. Saccharine in the form of tabloids or tablets, each containing not more than ½ grain of saccharine combined with not less than 10 per cent. (0·05 grain in each) of bicarbonate of soda or other alkali; as drugs and druggists’ sundries n.o.e. 15 per cent.

The above particulars are given in order to prevent any misapprehension as to what was intended by reference to “Squire’s Companion to the British Pharmacopoeia”: see Commissioner’s Order No. 692.
