No. 15347.—3rd September, 1902.—MONROE LEE ROSS, of 21, Rue Galilee, Paris, France, Engineer. Improvements in and relating to burners.
Claims.—(1.) A gas-stove in which a double supply of air is provided, and in which the top of the mixing-chamber is formed as a cone, having superposed upon it a hollow radiator, substantially as described. (2.) A burner for gas-stoves and the like, in which the top part of the mixing-chamber is separated from the main body or lower part thereof, and is provided as an inwardly protruding conical part, for the purposes and substantially as described. (3.) In a burner such as specified in claim 2, a hollow chamber or radiator provided in the manner and for the purposes substantially as described. (4.) In a burner as specified, the employment of a cylinder of gauze within the mixing-chamber, for the purposes and substantially as described. (5.) In a burner as specified in claim 2, the employment of the mixing-chamber casing in telescoping parts or sections, substantially as described.

No. 15351.—4th September, 1902.—The Honourable CHARLES ALGERNON PARSONS, of Heaton Works, Newcastle-on-Tyne, Northumberland, England, Engineer. Improvements in marine steam-turbines.
Claims.—(1.) An improved turbine arrangement for the propulsion of vessels, economically, both at fast and cruising speeds, consisting in a main turbine set for fast speeds, comprising a plurality of turbines of large capacity, mounted on a plurality of propellor-shafts, and one or more additional turbines of relatively small capacity adapted to be placed in series with the main turbines so as to secure economy at cruising speeds, one or more non-return valves being provided in the piping which connects the turbines in series. (2.) In a turbine arrangement as claimed in claim 1, a steam-pipe leading steam at boiler pressure directly to one or more of the small additional intermediate turbines for obtaining a higher rate of cruising speed, and non-return valves in the turbine-coupling pipes to prevent a back flow of steam from one turbine to another. (3.) In a turbine arrangement as claimed in claim 1, steam-pipes admitting steam at boiler pressure directly to one or more of the small additional turbines at points intermediate of their lengths for obtaining intermediate grades of speed, and non-return valves in the turbine-coupling pipes to prevent a back flow of steam from one turbine to another.

No. 15372.—6th September, 1902.—JOHN BLAIR MASON, of Dunedin, New Zealand, Civil Engineer. A new and improved combined gravity and automatic grading and concentrating table.
Claims.—(1.) A new and combined gravity and concentrating table consisting of a table having an opening, or series of openings, in the bottom, preferably adjustable both as to width and relative heights of edges of opening or openings, which may be made plain or serrated, substantially as described and explained. (2.) In a grading and concentrating table as set forth, the adaptation of the same to the plain tables or sluice-boxes of dredges by placing at the lower end of such plain tables lips or grading-bars to form openings for the interception of the heavier and finer materials passing over such tables, substantially as described.
