Bonus for Treatment of Auriferous Black Sand.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of £2,000 will be paid to any person who, before the 1st January, 1904, shall invent such appliances as will successfully save gold from black sands in New Zealand.
The bonus will be paid on compliance with the following conditions:—

The invention shall, in its main features, differ from all machinery and appliances at present in use for the saving of gold, whether coarse or fine.

It shall be readily transportable from place to place, and shall be capable of utilising local water for all its requirements.

The invention must be capable of treating not less than 30 cubic yards an hour of black sand or any coarser material up to a diameter of 4 in.; and it must be capable of treating such material profitably where there is not more than a value, in gold, of 3d. per cubic yard; not less than 80 per cent. of the gold contained in the material to be recovered by the machine.

No bonus to be paid until the invention has been continuously worked for not less than six months, and it shall, during that period, have treated not less than 100,000 cubic yards of material, working three shifts a day.

The bonus will be paid on the certificate of an officer that not less than twenty persons other than the applicant for the bonus are successfully working the invention.

Any person who receives the bonus shall not be allowed to take out patent rights in New Zealand for his invention.

Special Registration of Unregistered Births permitted by “The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1901.”

THE attention of the public is drawn to the opportunity afforded for a limited time—i.e., twelve months from the 8th November, 1901—to persons, or the parents of persons, whose births cannot now be registered under “The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1875,” of effecting a special registration by application to the Registrar-General.
By section 2 of “The Registration of Births Extension Act, 1901,” the provisions of the 2nd section of “The Registration of Births Act Amendment Act, 1882,” are re-enacted, subject to modification rendered necessary by “The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1892,” and extend and apply to the Act which passed on the 8th November, 1901. As changed they now stand:—
“It shall be lawful for the Registrar-General to register the birth of any child born in the colony previous to the period of two years before the date of the passing of this Act, but whose birth has not previously been registered, provided—
“(a.) That satisfactory evidence on oath, and such other proof as he may deem necessary, of the fact, place, and time of birth, and of the particulars of the parents, shall be sent to the Registrar-General within twelve months from the date of the coming into operation of this Act;
“(b.) That, on application to have such birth registered, a fee of one pound shall be paid to the Registrar-General.
“The particulars of the birth and of the nature of the evidence produced shall be entered by the Registrar-General in a separate book, which shall be kept by him for that purpose. The form in which the particulars are to be registered shall be prescribed by the Registrar-General.”

Notice of Vesting of Land in the Public Trustee under “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894.”
WHEREAS I, the undersigned, the Public Trustee, have, for the purposes of “The Unclaimed Lands Act, 1894,” made due inquiries with respect to the land described in the Schedule hereunder written, and the owner thereof, and have, in respect of the said land, given the notices prescribed by section 4 of the said Act, and have in all respects complied with the provisions of the said section: And whereas I have not thereby ascertained who the owner is, and believe that such owner is not in the colony, nor has such owner established his title to the said land, as required by the said Act: I hereby give notice that the said land is, under and by virtue of the said Act, vested in me, as the Public Trustee as aforesaid, as from the date of the publication hereof, and will be administered under the said Act, the assessed value of the said land being less than £100.
