Notification of Settlement of Claims for Compensation under
"The Mining Act, 1898."

Wellington, 27th August, 1901.
IN pursuance of the provisions of the 240th section of
"The Mining Act, 1898," it is hereby notified that the
claims for compensation enumerated in the Schedule hereto,
in respect to a Proclamation issued under the hand of His
Excellency the Governor and the Public Seal of the Colony
on the 16th day of July, 1900, declaring the Waikaka River,
with its tributaries, in the Land District of Southland, to be
watercourses into which tailings, &c., may be discharged,
have been settled, and all further claims and remedies in
respect of the said Proclamation are barred, as provided by
the said Act.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.)
per pound will be paid on the production of the first
one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good
marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities,
from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions,
that is to say:—
- That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on
or before the 31st March, 1903, and the remaining two-thirds
on or before the 31st March, 1904. - No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one
hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has
been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer
to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose
certificate alone the bonus will be paid. - In the event of more than one person producing the
required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named,
inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if
it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus,
the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities
produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be
paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.)
of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

NOTICE is hereby given that, pursuant to an application on that behalf made to me by the Waimate Branch of the New Zealand Workers' Industrial Union of Workers, registered No. 65, situated at Waimate, the registration of that industrial union will be cancelled at the expiration of six weeks from the date hereof unless within the six weeks specified proceedings be commenced by a member or other person interested in or having some claim on the funds of the industrial union to set aside such cancellation, and the same is set aside accordingly.

If more than one application is received for the same allotment on the same day the order of selection shall be decided by ballot.
