THE following special order, made by the Pukekohe East Road Board, is published in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.

THAT, in order to provide the interest on a loan of £4,000, to be borrowed under “The Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886,” and its amendments, and “The Local Bodies’ Loans Act, 1886,” and its amendments, the said loan to be for a period of forty-one years, at 3½ per cent. per annum, the Pukekohe East Road Board do hereby make and levy a special rate of ⅓d. in the pound on all the rateable property in the Pukekohe East Road District, such rate to be an annual-recurring rate for a period of forty-one years. The said loan of £4,000 to be expended in the construction of roads in the Pukekohe East Road District.

I hereby certify that the above special order has been made and confirmed in accordance with the provisions of “The Road Boards Act, 1882.”

Result of Poll for Proposed Loan, Pukekohe East Road Board, County of Manukau.

RESULT of Poll for Loan of £4,000 for the Pukekohe East Road District. Election held at Harrisville School, 15th December, 1900.

THE following is the result of the poll on the proposal to borrow the sum of £4,000 for construction of roads in the Pukekohe East Road District:—
Votes recorded for the proposal, 66; votes against the proposal, 9: majority for the proposal, 57.
The number of valid votes recorded for the proposal being more than three-fifths of the total number of valid votes recorded, I hereby declare the proposal to be carried.

Land in Canterbury, Raincliff Settlement, notified as subject to “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900.”

PURSUANT to the provisions of “The Land for Settlements Consolidation Act, 1900,” I hereby notify that the under-mentioned land, being the land known as Raincliff Settlement, which has been acquired under the said Act, is subject to the said Act.

SCHEDULE.

CANTERBURY LAND DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Canterbury Land District, containing by admeasurement 744 acres, more or less, being Rural Sections Nos. 7446, 7446x, 14651, 14652, 23159, 24306x, 24557, 24558, 24558x, 24776, 27450x, and parts of 21807, 24306, 24688, and 27450, situate in Blocks V. and IX., Opihi Survey District; as the said area is delineated on the plan marked S.G. 19227, deposited in the Head Office, Department of Lands and Survey, at Wellington, in the Wellington Land District, and thereon edged with pink.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced from Shale obtained in New Zealand.—Further Extension of Time.

THE time for notifying intention to claim the under-mentioned bonus, and for making such claim, has been further extended as follows:—

Notice of intention to claim the bonus must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 30th June, 1901.
The claim must be made before the 31st December, 1901.

Bonus on Mineral Oil produced from Shale obtained in New Zealand.

Wellington, 29th October, 1898.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus will be paid for the production of mineral oil under the following conditions:—

  1. A bonus of 1s. per gallon (£5,000) will be paid on the first 100,000 gallons of mineral oil produced from shale obtained in the Colony of New Zealand, the oil to be of a quality approved of by Government, and to be sold at a price not exceeding 1s. a gallon at any port of shipment in the colony.
  2. Notice of intention to claim the aforesaid bonus must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1899.
  3. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1900.
  4. The first claimant who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.
  5. The other conditions—as to quantity, priority, quality, and value—to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.

Bonus for the Production of Quicksilver.

Mines Office,
Wellington, 7th June, 1900.

NOTICE is hereby given that a bonus of fourpence (4d.) per pound will be paid on the production of the first one hundred thousand pounds weight (100,000 lb.) of good marketable retorted quicksilver, free from all impurities, from any mine in New Zealand, on the following conditions, that is to say:—

  1. That at least one-third of the quantity is produced on or before the 31st March, 1903, and the remaining two-thirds on or before the 31st March, 1904.
  2. No bonus will be payable until the whole of the one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced as stipulated to the satisfaction of an officer to be appointed by the Minister of Mines, and on whose certificate alone the bonus will be paid.
  3. In the event of more than one person producing the required quantities of quicksilver before the dates named, inquiry will be made by the officer above referred to, when, if it is found that each applicant is equally entitled to a bonus, the amount will be divided in proportion to the quantities produced by each applicant, but in no case shall any bonus be paid until at least one hundred thousand pounds (100,000 lb.) of quicksilver has been produced in the aggregate.

Civil Service Senior Examination.

NOTICE is hereby given that, for the Civil Service Senior Examination of January, 1902, candidates may read “The Tempest” as an alternative to “King Lear,” one of the special books already prescribed for the examination. The examination papers will contain alternative questions on these two plays, in addition to questions on the other work set.
