  1. No person shall buy, sell, expose for sale, consign for sale, buy for sale, or have in possession any seal, or any skins, oil, or blubber from any seal, in any manner in contravention of the said Act or of these regulations; and every person so doing is liable for every such offence to a penalty of not less than £1 nor more than £20.

Eltham Land-drainage District, County of Hawera, constituted.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of April, 1901.

Present:
THE HONOURABLE J. CARROLL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS, in accordance with the provisions of the fifth section of “The Land Drainage Act, 1893,” a majority of the ratepayers in the district described in the Schedule hereto, situated in the County of Hawera, have presented a petition to His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand praying that the land comprised in the said district be constituted a drainage district under the provisions of the said Act:

Now, therefore, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in the fifth section of “The Land Drainage Act, 1893,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby constitute and declare the block of land described in the said petition and in the Schedule hereto to be a district for the purposes of Part I. of the said Act, and to be called by the name of the “Eltham Drainage District”; and also, in pursuance and exercise of the power and authority contained in the ninth section of the said Act, doth hereby declare that the Board of Trustees for the said district shall consist of five members, to be elected under and in accordance with the said Act.

SCHEDULE.
ELTHAM DRAINAGE DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Taranaki Land District, situated in Blocks VI., VII., X., XI., and XV., Ngai re Survey District, bounded towards the north generally by Cheal Road, from the north-western corner of Section No. 48, Block VI., to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 49; thence by Section No. 73, Block VI., the crossing of a road, and by Section No. 13, Block VII., to the northernmost corner of Section No. 14, Block VII.: thence towards the north-east by the Pukengahu Block to the easternmost corner of Section No. 41, Block XI.: thence towards the east generally by Sections Nos. 17, 12, and 11, Block XII., to Rawhitiroa Road; thence by a line across that road to the northernmost corner of Section No. 7, Block XI.; thence by the said Section No. 7 to Sangster Road; thence by that road to the said Section No. 7; thence by Section No. 7 aforesaid and Section No. 6 to the said Sangster Road; thence by that road to Section No. 5, Block XI.; thence by Section No. 5 aforesaid and Sections Nos. 32 and 31, Block XV., to the westernmost corner of the last-mentioned section: thence towards the south-west generally by Section No. 9, Block XV., the crossing of a road, and by Sections Nos. 4, 3, 2, 1, Block XI., and Section No. 55, Block X.: thence again towards the east by the said Section No. 55: thence again towards the south-west by the Mangawhero Road to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 45, Block X.: thence towards the west generally by the said Section No. 45, the crossing of a road, and by Section No. 93 to Rawhitiroa Road; thence by that road and Anderson Road to Section No. 25, Block X.; thence by that section and Section No. 47, Block VI., to Cheal Road, the place of commencement: excluding from the above-described area Sections Nos. 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and 28, Block XI., Ngai re Survey District.

Conferring Jurisdiction on Native Land Court.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of April, 1901.

Present:
THE HONOURABLE J. CARROLL PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS a parcel of land, containing one hundred and seventy-five acres, more or less, being Section Seventy-eight, Block I., on the map of the Opunake Survey District, is vested in the Public Trustee under the West Coast Settlement Reserves Acts:

And whereas the beneficial ownership of the said parcel of land, and the respective interests of the owners therein as against each other, have never been ascertained: And whereas on application to the Native Land Court doubts have been expressed whether the jurisdiction given by sections fifteen and sixteen of “The West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, 1892,” can be exercised without the Governor in Council, at the request of the Public Trustee, directing such jurisdiction to be exercised: And whereas the Public Trustee has preferred such request:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby authorise the said Native Land Court to exercise in respect of the said parcel of land all powers and authorities conferred on the said Court necessary to determine and order who are the Native owners of the said parcel of land and their relative shares or interests therein, and to do, order, and determine all other acts, matters, and things necessary in the premises for enabling the Public Trustee to obtain from the said Court “the register” in respect of the said parcel of land, in the manner described in section fourteen of “The West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, 1892.”

Conferring Jurisdiction on Native Land Court.

At the Government Buildings, at Wellington, this twenty-seventh day of March, 1901.

Present:
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE R. J. SEDDON PRESIDING IN COUNCIL.

WHEREAS by “The Special Powers and Contracts Act, 1885,” it is enacted that a parcel of land, containing nineteen acres, more or less, being part of Section 288, Hawera Survey District, should be conveyed by the owner therein named to the Public Trustee, in trust for the Waihoroto and Ngaruahine Hapus of the Pukekohe Tribe, to be inalienable for ever: And whereas the description of the land as being in the Hawera Survey District is incorrect, the same being really in the Patea District: And whereas, in pursuance of such enactment, the said land is now vested in the Public Trustee by certificate of title: And whereas it has not been authoritatively decided under what statute or statutes affecting Native reserves the said land is so vested in the Public Trustee:

And whereas another parcel of land, containing thirty-one acres one rood twenty-two perches, more or less, being Section 537, Patea District, on the map of the Carlyle Survey District, is vested in the Public Trustee under the West Coast Settlement Reserves Acts:

And whereas the beneficial ownership of the said two parcels of land, although, so far as known, is in the same persons, yet neither the persons nor their respective interests as against each other have been ascertained: And whereas, on application to the Native Land Court, doubts have been expressed whether the jurisdiction given by sections fifteen and sixteen of “The West Coast Settlement Reserves Act, 1892” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), can be exercised without the Governor in Council, at the request of the Public Trustee, directing such jurisdiction to be exercised: And whereas the Public Trustee has preferred such request:

Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise of the power conferred by the said Act, and acting by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby authorise the said Native Land Court to exercise in respect of the said two parcels of land, either together or separately, all powers and authorities conferred on the said Court necessary to determine and order who are the Native owners of the said parcels of land respectively, and their relative shares or interests therein respectively, and to do, order, and determine all other acts, matters, and things necessary in the premises for enabling the Public Trustee to obtain from the said Court the register in respect of each parcel of land in the manner described in section fourteen of the said Act.

PURSUANT to the powers conferred upon him by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand doth hereby notify that native and imported game shall not be taken or killed
