Rural Lands in the Wellington Land District open for Sale or Selection.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirty-sixth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, having received the report of the Surveyor-General in this behalf, as in the said section is provided, do hereby declare that the rural lands enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be open for sale or selection on and after the twenty-second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and one; and also that the lands mentioned in the said Schedule may, at the option of the applicant, be purchased for cash, or be selected for occupation with right of purchase or on lease in perpetuity, or, in respect of any land containing or supposed to contain any metal, mineral, or valuable stone, be selected on lease in perpetuity only; and I do hereby also fix the prices at which the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased, as mentioned in the said Schedule hereto, and do declare that the said lands shall be sold, occupied, or leased under and subject to the provisions of “The Land Act, 1892.”

Section 3, Block V., Tiffin, is situated on the Kaitangata Road, in Dalefield District. The access is from Dalefield Railway-station, which is about four miles and a half distant (in the neighbourhood of which is the post-office and cheese-factory, the Township of Carterton being about six miles and a half distant)—by a good metalled road three miles, thence by unformed road along the Kaitangata Stream about a mile and a half. The section comprises, generally speaking, hilly forest country, with a small area of flat on the Kaitangata Stream. The soil is of medium quality, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is generally light, comprising birch (black and red), rata, hinau, maire, rimu, &c., with a dense undergrowth of supplejack, haurangi, mahoe, matipo, toro, &c. The section is well watered by permanent streams. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 1,800 ft. above sea-level.
Section 4, Block V., Tiffin, is situated on the Kaitangata Road, in the Dalefield District. The access is from Dalefield Railway-station, which is about four miles distant (in the neighbourhood of which is the post-office and cheese-factory, Carterton being about six miles distant)—by a good metalled road for three miles, thence by unformed road along the Kaitangata Stream about one mile. The section comprises, generally, hilly, forest, open, scrub, and grass country, with a small area of flat land on the Kaitangata Road. The soil is medium quality, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is light, partly burnt on ridges, comprising rimu, hinau, rata, maire, &c., with dense undergrowth of supplejack, haurangi, makomako, &c. The section is permanently watered by the Kaitangata Stream. The elevation ranges from 500 ft. to 1,750 ft. above sea-level. The improvements comprise 32 acres grassed at £1 10s. per acre, £48; 28 chains of fencing at 10s. per chain, £14: total, £62.
Section 5, Block V., Tiffin, is situated on the Beef Creek Road, in the Dalefield District. The access is from Dalefield Railway-station (which is about five miles and a half distant), the Township of Carterton being about seven and a half miles distant—by a metalled road five miles and a half, thence by unformed road generally along Beef Creek two miles. The section comprises, generally, hilly forest and open fern and scrub country, with a small area of flat land on Beef Creek. The soil is of medium quality, resting on sandstone formation. The forest is light, comprising birch, hinau, mahoe, rata, maire, rimu, &c., with dense undergrowth of supplejack, haurangi, makomako, &c. The section is permanently watered by Beef Creek. The elevation ranges from about 500 ft. to 1,750 ft. above sea-level.

Notifying Land in Southland for Sale by Public Auction.
RANFURLY, Governor.
IN pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by the one-hundred-and-thirteenth section of “The Land Act, 1892,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint Wednesday, the twenty-second day of May, one thousand nine hundred and one, as the time at which the land enumerated in the Schedule hereto shall be sold by public auction; and I do hereby fix the price at which the said land shall be sold as that mentioned in the said Schedule hereto opposite the description of such land.
