Constituting Lochiel River District, County of Southland.

A PROCLAMATION.

I N exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in me by “The River Boards Act, 1884,” I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that, from and after the date hereof, that part of the said colony described in the Schedule hereto shall be and the same is hereby constituted a district under the said Act, and shall be known by the name of the Lochiel River District; and that the number of the members who are to constitute the Board of the said district shall be five. And I do also proclaim and declare that William Russell, of Winton, shall be the Returning Officer to conduct the first election of five members of the aforesaid Board; that Wednesday, the seventeenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and one, shall be the day, and the Schoolhouse, Lochiel, shall be the place, for holding such first elections; and that Wednesday, the twenty-fourth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and one, at half-past three o’clock in the afternoon, shall be the time, and the said Schoolhouse, Lochiel, shall be the place, at which the first meeting of the members of the Board of the said Lochiel River District shall be held. And, lastly, I do proclaim and declare that the aforesaid William Russell shall be the person to make a roll of electors for the purposes of the aforesaid first elections, in the manner prescribed by section eight of the said “River Boards Act, 1884.”

SCHEDULE.

LOCHIEL RIVER DISTRICT.

ALL that area in the Southland Land District bounded towards the north by a right line parallel to and 1½ chains north of the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 31 and 42, Block I., Winton Hundred, from the Winton-Wallacetown Road to the road forming the eastern boundary of Section No. 41: thence towards the east generally by the road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 41, 42, 43, and 44, Block I. aforesaid, to Section No. 45; thence by that section to the road forming its southern boundary; thence by a line across that road and by Sections Nos. 47 and 48, to the southern boundary of Winton Hundred; thence by the southern boundary of Winton Hundred to the Winton-Wallacetown Road; thence by that road to the road forming the northern boundary of Section No. 7, Block XIV., New River Hundred; thence by that road and the road forming the eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 5 and 4, to the northern boundary of Section No. 3; thence towards the south by the said Section No. 3 to the Oreti River: thence towards the west generally by the Oreti River to the road forming the northern boundary of Section No. 5, Block XIV. aforesaid; thence by that road to a point in line with the eastern boundary of Section No. 11; thence by a right line to and by the said Section No. 11 to the Oreti River; thence again by that river to the southern boundary of Section No. 56, Block XIII., New River Hundred; thence by the southern boundary of that section to the road forming its eastern boundary; thence by that road to the southern boundary of Section No. 72, Block IX.; thence by the southern boundary of that section to the road which intersects Sections Nos. 72 and 71; thence by that road and the production of its eastern side to the southern boundary of Section No. 69; thence by Sections No. 69, 68, 67, and 65, Block IX., New River Hundred, to the closed road forming the eastern boundary of the last-mentioned section; thence across and by that closed road and the production of its eastern side to the southern boundary of Section No. 23, Block I., Winton Hundred; thence by that section to the Winton-Wallacetown Road; and thence by that road to the place of commencement.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the Right Honourable Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly; Knight Commander of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George; Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this sixth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand nine hundred and one.

A PROCLAMATION.

W HEREAS by the twenty-third section of “The Land Act, 1892,” it is enacted that the Governor, by Proclamation in the Gazette, may from time to time establish and define, abolish, alter, or reconstitute local districts for the sale or disposal of land, and in like manner from time to time may appoint land offices and land officers or other persons for conducting sales of land in such local districts, and for receiving applications for the sale, letting, disposal, or occupation of Crown lands, and for generally carrying into effect the provisions of the said Act;
