those in charge of vessels should not lose it until the white
fixed light of the No. 12 gas buoy bears no further west than
S.W. by S.; then steer if necessary to avoid the 17ft. shoal
lying 3½ cables south from the Pile light, and pass the
white fixed light of No. 12 gas buoy 1 cable off on the port
side; thence steer S. by W. ½ W. until entering the sector of
red light shown from the Low Lighthouse, and keep within
the same, passing the fixed red light of the Royal George
No. 2 gas buoy 2 cables off on the port side of the vessel,
and the red occulting light of the Royal George No. 1 gas
buoy a cable off on the port side of the vessel; thence steer
S.W. ½ W. for the line of leading lights in the fairway,
between Port Phillip Heads.
WARNING BY RED SECTOR FROM WEST CHANNEL PILE LIGHT.
—Those in charge of vessels navigating Port Phillip Bay,
and getting into the sector of red light shown from the
West Channel Pile light between the bearings of S. 80° W.
round northerly to N. 77° W., will be warned by losing such
red light to the southward of their near approach to the
entrance banks, and should therefore keep such red light in
view until assured of their position.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA.—APPROACH TO SPENCER GULF AND INVESTIGATOR STRAIT, NEPTUNE ISLANDS.
REFERRING to Notice to Mariners No. 1, dated 9th April,
1900, mariners are hereby informed that the proposed light
on the South Neptune Island, at the approach to Spencer
Gulf and Investigator Strait, will in all probability be exhibited about 1st October, 1901.
A further notice, giving full particulars as to the character
of the light, actual date of illumination, &c., will be issued
as early as possible.
This affects Admiralty Chart No. 2389.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Harbour Department, Hongkong, is published for
general information.

On and after the 1st July, 1901, the fog-signal from
Waglan Lighthouse will be two guns fired at an interval of
fifteen seconds every twelve minutes during the continuance
of fog.

Notice as to Day for closing under “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894.”
NOTICE is hereby given that, in exercise of the powers
conferred upon me by “The Shops and Shop-assistants Act, 1894,” and of all other powers and authorities me hereto enabling, and in terms of notice in writing
duly received by me from the Chairman of the Conference
of Delegates of all the local authorities comprised in the
district constituted for the purposes of that Act by the
Boroughs of the City of Dunedin, St. Kilda, South Dunedin, Caversham, Mornington, Roslyn, Maori Hill, Northeast Valley, West Harbour, and Port Chalmers (being all
the boroughs or town districts any part of any one of which
is situate within a mile of any part of another), I, William
Hall-Jones, acting for and on behalf of the Minister of
Labour, hereby appoint Wednesday to be the day on which
all shops in the said district shall be closed as provided by
that Act.

column of the said Schedule :
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers in this behalf

SIR,—In continuation of the letter from this department of
the 10th October, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Chamberlain to transmit to you, for your information, a transcript
of the text, as published in the Russian Bulletin of Laws
No. 114 of the 3rd–16th of October, 1900, of the imperial
ukaz relieving wine of an alcoholic strength of 13 degrees
and less from the additional duty established by the ukaz of
July 21st–August 3rd last.

IMPERIAL UKAZ TO THE MINISTER OF FINANCE.
Recognising the necessity of exempting wine made of the
juice of the grape and from berries, and imported in barrels
and kegs, of an alcoholic strength of 13 degrees and less,
from the additional duty established by our ukaz of the
21st July last, under section 28, point 1, of the Customs
tariff for European trade, we ordain that this measure be
carried into effect from the day of receipt by the Customs
establishments of the orders of the Minister of Finance relating thereto.

into the Colony of New South Wales.—Notice No. 624.

Government of New South Wales requires declarations and certificates (similar to those used in the case of
live-stock) to accompany all future imports of skins, hides,
