Lands set apart for Mining Purposes exclusively.

RANFURLY, Governor.

IN pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities conferred upon me by section twenty of “The Mining Act, 1898,” and of all other powers and authorities enabling me in this behalf, I, Uchter John Mark, Earl of Ranfurly, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby set apart the unoccupied Crown lands described in the Schedule hereto for mining purposes exclusively.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that area in the Nelson Land District, containing 43,700 acres, more or less, bounded towards the east by a right line running due north through the Initial Trig. Station (Buller Circuit) from the Buller Coalfield Reserve to a point 200 chains north of the said Initial Trig. Station; thence towards the north by a line running due west to the sea; thence towards the west by the sea to the Porarari River; thence towards the south-east by a right line to the north-eastern corner of Block II., Brighton Survey District; thence towards the east by a right line to the south-eastern corner of Section No. 1, Block VII., Waitakere Survey District; thence by a right line to a point 20 chains due north of the north-eastern corner of Block V., Waitakere Survey District; thence by a right line running due north to the Okari River; and thence by that river and the Buller Coalfield Reserve to the place of commencement: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold sections and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, containing 23,080 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north-west by the Buller Coalfield Reserve: towards the north generally by a line parallel to the north bank of the Buller River, at a distance of 20 chains from the middle of that river, from the Buller Coalfield Reserve to the south-western corner of Section No. 12, Block XVI., Orikaka Survey District; thence by the western boundary-line of that section to its north-western corner; thence by a right line bearing N. 7° 30' E. for a distance of 120 chains; thence by a right line bearing S. 82° 30' E. for a distance of 409 chains 98 links; thence by a right line running in the direction of the confluence of Eight-mile Creek with the Buller River to a point 20 chains distant from the middle of the Buller River; thence by a line parallel to the north bank of the Buller River, at a distance of 20 chains from the middle of that river, to its confluence with the River Matiri: thence towards the west generally by the River Matiri to its confluence with the Buller River; thence by a line across the Buller River to a point distant 20 chains from the middle of that river: and thence towards the south generally by a line parallel to the south bank of the Buller River, at a distance of 20 chains from the middle of that river, to the Buller Coalfield Reserve aforesaid: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold sections and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, containing 31,210 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north by Mining Reserve No. 8, as described in Gazette No. 72, 28th September, 1893; towards the east by a line running generally parallel to the eastern bank of the River Maruia, at a distance of about 40 chains from the middle of that river, from Mining Reserve No. 8 aforesaid to the northern boundary-line of the Rahu Survey District; thence by that boundary-line to a point due north of Trig. Station C, Rahu; thence by a right line running due south through Trig. Station C, Rahu, to the southern boundary-line of Block IV., Rahu Survey District; thence by that boundary-line to a point 40 chains distant from the middle of the Maruia River; thence by a line running parallel to the eastern bank of the River Maruia, at a distance of about 40 chains from the middle of that river, for a distance of about thirteen miles; thence towards the south-east by a right line at right angles to the last-described boundary in a south-westerly direction for a distance of about 80 chains; thence towards the west by a line running generally parallel to the western bank of the River Maruia, at a distance of about 40 chains from the middle of that river, to the southern boundary-line of Block III., Rahu Survey District; thence by that southern boundary-line in a westerly direction to a point 250 chains west of Trig. Station C; thence by a right line running due north to the northern boundary-line of the Rahu Survey District; thence by that northern boundary-line to a point 40 chains distant from the middle of the River Maruia; and thence by a line running parallel to the western bank of the River Maruia, at a distance of about 40 chains from the middle of that river, to Mining Reserve No. 8 aforesaid: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold sections and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, containing 4,200 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north generally by the southern boundary-line of Section No. 91, Block I., Tutaki Survey District, and that boundary-line produced to the eastern bank of the Matakita River; thence by the eastern bank of that river to the southern boundary-line of Section No. 25, and thence by that southern boundary-line to the south-eastern corner of the said Section No. 25: thence towards the east generally by the eastern boundary-line of Section No. 26, said Block I., to its south-eastern corner; thence by a line running parallel to the general course of the Matakita River, distant about 12½ chains from the middle of that river, for a distance of about seventeen miles to the south-eastern boundary of Section No. 3, Block VI., Matakita Survey District; thence by the south-eastern boundary-line of said Section No. 3 and its production in a south-westerly direction for a distance of about 25 chains; thence by a line running parallel to the general course of the Matakita River, distant about 12½ chains from the middle of that river, to a point 10 chains distant from the middle of the Glenroy River; thence by a line running parallel to the general course of the Glenroy River, distant about 10 chains from the middle of that river, for a distance of about five miles: thence towards the south by a right line at right angles to the last-described boundary-line for a distance of about 20 chains: thence towards the west generally by a line running parallel to the general course of the Glenroy River, and distant about 10 chains from the middle of that river, to a point opposite the confluence of the Matakita and Glenroy Rivers; and thence by a line running parallel to the general course of the Matakita River, and distant about 12½ chains from the middle of that river, to the southern boundary-line of Section No. 91, Block I., Tutaki Survey District aforesaid: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold lands and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, situated in the Tutaki Survey District, containing 2,560 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at a point where the southern boundary-line of Mining Reserve No. 8, as described in the New Zealand Gazette No. 72, 28th September, 1893, is intersected by the boundary-line between Sections 64 and 65, Square 138, and proceeding thence in a south-easterly and southerly direction along a line running parallel to the general course of Doughboy Creek, and distant from the centre thereof about 40 chains, for a distance of about four miles; thence along a line at right angles to the last-described boundary-line for a distance of about 80 chains; thence northerly along a line running parallel to the general course of Doughboy Creek, and distant from the centre thereof about 40 chains, to the southern boundary-line of the said Mining Reserve No. 8; and thence north-easterly along that boundary-line to the point of commencement: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold lands and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, situated in Kawatiri Survey District, containing 5,000 acres, more or less, bounded by a line commencing at Trig. Station O, and proceeding in a northerly direction along the sea-coast to the River Waimangaroa; thence in an easterly direction along the south bank of that river for a distance of about two miles to the boundary of the Buller Coalfield Reserve; thence in a south-westerly direction along the boundary of the said reserve to the River Orawaiti; thence in a north-westerly direction along a right line to the Trig. Station O aforesaid: excepting from the above-described area all freehold and leasehold sections and reserves.

All that area in the Nelson Land District, containing 25,900 acres, more or less, bounded towards the north by a right line from the north-eastern corner of Section No. 15, Block II., Reefton Survey District, to Trig. Station HH, Reefton Survey District: thence towards the east generally by a right line to Trig. Station G; thence by a right line to Trig. Station N, Reefton Survey District; thence by a right line running in the direction of Trig. Station A, Waitanu Survey District, to the Inangahua River: thence towards the south-west by the Inangahua River to a point due south of the southern corner of Section No. 214A, Square 131, Block XIV., Reefton Survey District: thence towards the west generally by a right line to the southern corner of said Section No. 214A; thence by the eastern and south-eastern boundaries of Sections Nos. 214A, 115, and 161 to the northern corner of the last-mentioned section; thence by a right line to the southern corner of Section No. 88, Square 131, Block X., Reefton Survey District; thence by the eastern boundary of that section to the road leading to Boatman’s; thence along the southern side of that road to the north-eastern corner of Section No. 61, Square 131, Block X., Reefton Survey District; thence by a line running due north across the River Waitahu to its right bank; thence westerly along the said bank to the eastern boundary of Section No. 40, Block X., Reefton Survey District; thence by the eastern and northern boundaries of said Section No. 40, and the northern boundaries of Sections Nos. 41, Block X., Reefton Survey District, 168, 166, 250, 259, and 248, Square 131, to the western corner of Section No. 245,
