WELLINGTON, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 23, 1901.

THE Government has received, with the deepest sorrow,
the announcement of the death of Her Most Gracious
Majesty QUEEN VICTORIA, on the evening of the
22nd instant, at half-past six oโ€™clock.

To-morrow (Thursday) will be observed as a day of
mourning throughout the colony.

The officers at the Government Buildings are relieved
from duty to-morrow, Friday, and Saturday.
